| Why is horse racing still legal? Why is horse racing, or the racing of any animal for that matter, still legal? I can't believe people, especially those who claims to be an animal lover, still watch it despite all that contentiously happens. So frustrating and upsetting...

| Race horses are very spoiled and very well cared for. Most of them actually enjoy the race because they can run. The little whip that is used by the jockies, called a crop, does not hurt a horse. It is the sound it makes that scares them and makes them run faster. Maybe all horse riding should be ban then? Please inform yourself before making an opinion on such matters. I have worked at a track and have worked with horses all my life and there is nothing cruel about racing or riding horses!

| That's true. That doesn't excuse those who watch (and don't bet and such) though.

What percentage of horses that are bred for horse racing actually "succeed?" What happens to those who don't?

| I went on CNN to just find out what is going on in the world and that poor horse was on the homepage. I wish I didn't see that! I am so upset right now, I love horses. I don't watch the races or anything so I had no idea until I saw this

| I am not a fan of horseracing. I have never watched one. I had to go find out what happened. What a sad shame! "The day began with hope and pomp. Bolstered by the sentimental support from 157,770 fans and endorsed by presidential contender Hillary Clinton and cheered by daughter Chelsea, the filly finished second in the Kentucky Derby on Saturday." Nobody seems to understand what happened nor how. I found this article and I am in agreement with the writer: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/04/sp...ef=othersports .................................................. ....... |
