No Longer a Member | The best thing to brush your turkey with is this: Get Penzey's Poultry seasoning. I swear this is the best stuff--forget that stuff in the grocery store. Take about 1/4 cup apple juice and heat it up in the microwave Add 2 TB of Penzey's Poultry seasoning 1/2 ts garlic powder dash fresh ground black pepper dash paprika for color 1 ts salt Mix together and allow it to set so that the spices are moist and soft, and most of the juice should be absorbed. Mix your choice of cooking oil--about 3TB. Pat turkey dry and salt and pepper the cavity*. Brush spice mixture all over turkey--don't forget the underside. Insert thermometer in thickest part of the thigh, not touching the bone. Place Turkey in the oven with feet facing the back of the oven. Roast per the temp and time indicated on the wrapper. You DO NOT need to baste during cooking. Just watch for areas that are getting brown before other areas, and wrap those areas with foil that has the spice/ oil mixture brushed on the side that will be touching the turkey. Turkey is done when the thermometer reaches 190*F. Remove from the oven and allow it to set AT LEAST 15 minutes, undisturbed, before carving. *I prefer not to stuff my turkey, because you have to cook it longer and the breast can get more dry. Plus, you just can't fit all the stuffing inside. So I cook my stuffing in the crock pot. |

Donating YT 11K Club Member | i was watching Rachael Ray this morning and she was making TG food and one thing she did was put the stuffing in cupcake holders and put it in the oven, so they were like stuffing cupcakes. They were cute and cooked better that way and each person can take one, i think i might try to do that.

Mom to Marty & Maddie Donating Member | I actually got this recipe off of YT a few years ago, but I don't remember who posted it. Sorry I can't give the original poster credit. My family has loved this and begged for it ever since the first time I made it! APPLE BREAD! Oven 325, bakes in about 1 hour and 10 minutes 3 eggs, slightly beaten 2 cups sugar 1 cup vegetable oil 1 Tablespoon vanilla 3 cups flour 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 4 cups chopped, pared, cored apples (about 3-4) (this puts to good use that darned apple/peeler/corer slicer thing you got at a Pampered Chef party years ago and never used!) 1 cup chopped pecans topping: 2 Tablespoons sugar 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1. Preheat oven to slow 325. Grease and flour two 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 x 2 1/2 inch loaf pans (or I use those mini loaf pans) 2. Stir together the eggs, sugar, oil and vanilla in medium sized bowl until well mixed. 3. Combine the flour, soda and cinnamon on piece of waxed paper, and then then stir into liquid ingredients until just evenly mixed. Stir in the apples and pecans. The mixture will be very thick and gloppy. Divide between the loaf pans. 4: Prepare the topping: combine the sugar and cinnamon in a small cup, and sprinkle over the loaves. 5: Bake in preheated slow oven at 325 for 1 hour and 10 minutes, approximately. Check it carefully with a tester inserted in center comes out CLEAN. Make sure it's done. Sometimes in my oven they take longer than the time specified. Make sure they are done. Nothing worse than raw middle. |
