New Yorkie Mommy Hello everyone! As the title says, I'm a new Yorkie mommy of a 3 month old. I've had him for 4 days now and I am overwhelmed with emotions. I would like to tell you a little about myself. I'm a Lupus patient for about 25 years now I have more bad days than good days. The energy is just not there at times (well, most of the time.) That is first reason I'm scared. Second, I was a mommy to 2 Shih-tzu's for almost 15 years and they're both in doggie heaven since last year. So, it's like I finally got a break for me now after all these years. So after my doggies died everyone would ask me if I would ever get a doggie again and I would respond not now. And my husband would say def no! Well, my daughter came over Thursday evening and surprised me with Max. I was in shock! It was love at first sight. My husband was kinda upset because she didn't ask before purchasing him. But she knew if she would ask he would of said no and she did it for me. But there is definitely no regrets I truly love him. The second day home I took him for a ride to get my granddaughter from school and took Max. He threw up like 3 times in the car. Didn't want to eat at home all day. Finally he did a little at night and drank water and peed. But today it's repeating. He did good the next day, active and eating as well as drinking. But this morning he wasn't happy to get up, he's been sleeping all day. Does not want to eat but has drank water as well peed. I'm so sorry this is such a long message but I want to know if I should be worried and is it time to take him to the vet?

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Welcome and congratulations. These little ones can go down quickly when they are sick, so I would take him to the vet as soon as possible. He could be adjusting to his new home but he could also have something that needs to be addressed by a vet. If you are not familiar with hypoglycemia, I would read up on it. Their blood sugar goes to low and they can go down fast. One of the big signs is lethargy. There is a product called Nutrical that helps with this but only until you can get him to your vet. If you think he is going hypoglycemic give him a little karo syrup or pancake sugar and get him to the vet right away. Hopefully, he is just adjusting to his new home and will be fine. Has he been seen by a vet since you got him? If not he should be checked out. Keep us posted.

Welcome! And congratulations on your new little guy! I am sorry for the loss of your shih-tzus - losing our babies is always so hard. But I am so happy that you have opened your heart up to this new baby, even though he was such a surprise! You will all adjust soon and it will be like he's been there his whole life. I would definitely make an appointment for him in the morning - things can happen and change so quickly and its not worth the risk of hoping he will get better. It's better to be safe than sorry, so I would definitely recommend having him seen asap. Prayers that everything is a ok and that this sickness is only him adjusting to his new home/diet/environment. Best wishes to you and your new baby!

I'm sorry about your health and Shih-tzus. Unfortunately i can relate, I lost my both of my poodles over the last year and a half and I have a bunch of health problems that affect my energy. A new puppy does help ease the pain of losing the other two. As for the energy, I strongly suggest teaching him fetch and training him to do tricks to wear him out. I agree, it's might just be adjusting to a new house but you should take him to the vet. He needs a new puppy visit anyway. When I got Lola she threw up 3x on the way home (3hr drive) and the next day she threw up on the way to petsmart (10min drive) and again when we got there. It took her a few days to get comfortable enough to really eat and she wasn't too active the first few days because she was scared and overwhelmed. Do you have the food the breeder was feeding him? I gave Lola some Cesar puppy food at first, it's junk food but dogs seem to really like it, she wouldn't eat the dry food from the breeder.

I want to thank everyone for your advise. I want to tell you that I called the breeder and she gave me advise on what to feed him. Today was going on day 2 of not eating and now not drinking and wanting to sleep all day. I have to give it to the breeder she is a wonderful person. She is so knowledgable on this breed. She told me exactly what to do and let me tell you that Max is running around the house as I'm typing 😄. Max is such a finicky puppy. Again, thank you for your good thoughts and advise. God. Bless you all.
