| i need your advice and help! so i know i posted a couple weeks ago about mocha not being in heat.... well i think she is now! she's swollen and her nipples are turning out, but i haven't seen any blood. she does lick down there often, but she has done that ever since i got her. she likes to keep herself really clean. she's been quite fussy lately, more than usual. always whining and wanting to be by my side-at all times. or she'll just sit there and whine for me, but not want to do anything (eat, play, go potty, etc). my question is..when does the blood appear? and will she continue to keep herself clean to not let me see any blood? and is it good for them to lick their own blood to keep themselves clean? should i invest in diapers? i have no idea what to do if she's in heat. i made a spaying appointment but it looks like that has to be postponed since she's already showing signs. sigh...they grow up so fast.

| You may never see any blood. When Lacy was in heat I never saw any blood at all. I don't know if she just didn't bleed or if she was just keeping herself clean. She's spayed though now. So far as diapers, you don't neccessarily need them, especially if she's not bleeding. If you have any males, keep them 100% separated for 4 weeks just to be safe (normal heat is 3 weeks). Don't leave her unattended outside for even a minute - a male dog can smell a female in heat 3 miles away and you wouldn't believe what they can do to get to the female - climb extremely high fences and dig under - and it only takes a few minutes sometimes. So watch her like a hawk

Here's the average Heat Cycle 1 week coming in - swealing of the vagina and nipples. 2nd week Showing color - the best way to see blood is to press a tissue to her after she's urinated. Her bleeding will probably be only light spotting after she urinates. No need for diapers. 3rd week coming out and the time breeding takes place. however, she'll continue to act differently up to 2 months after her Season has ended.....that hormonal stuff is wacko. Her personality change during this time is very normal. Licking herself to keep herself clean is just very natural....Yorkies are very clean and do this after they urinate.... Keep her away from males for approximately a month.

| okay thanks! being a first time mommy, i get so worried about things i don't know. she's a doll and her personality is of a princess, but i love her to pieces. i know several yt members make diapers, but is there anywhere i can go to buy them from the store? all the pet boutiques over here carry every designer dress/shirt known, but no diapers. i'm not sure if i can wait 2-3 weeks.

| I got a diaper from GoFetch for Emma when she came into heat before I got her spayed. She bled a bit on her bed and things, so I put it on her when I noticed that and they worked nicely. I bought another one soon after because I realized I'd need one in between while I was washing the other one. |

| If it is really something you must know if she is bleeding or not Stick a cue tip in her easily..Not far you should see some blood. I was told to do this by a breeder. and yes I have done it. I was afraid at first thought it was nasty but it is like us useing tampons

Peeka Boo I See You! Donating Member | I feel ya lol. Daisy has been swollen for about 10 days now and last night i used a cotton ball to wipe her after she went pee and i got a brownish color on the cotton ball so i am assuming she is in heat. She is keeping herself very clean infact i almost doubted she was in heat because there was no blood. But i am sure she is in heat now

| There are plain diapers to for dogs. I don't know where you can get them, but I would imagine premature baby diapers would fit well enough until you figure it out. (Babies R Us would have them). If you have any little outfits with panties, just put a pantyliner inside. You might get lucky and not need to worry about bleeding.

i have yet to see anything, but she's super swollen and she seems very lethargic--lazy, almost, like she would rather lounge than play with me. so...taking that into consideration, i think she's either in heat, or pretty close to being in heat. just waiting for other signs to confirm my assumptions.
