| PETLAND stories As some of you might remember, my 6-month-old Yorktese came from Petland and had a liver shunt -- then later I found out how common it is for Petland pups to have genetic problems. He went through his surgery (which totaled $2,150) and has fully recovered (i included some pics below that I took yesterday). Unfortunately petland's policy is to refund or cover costs up to the dog's purchase price, so I'm only getting $800 from them toward the surgery. I am the editor-in-chief of a weekly entertainment magazine in Baton Rouge, and I am currently working with one of my writers (who also happens to be a petsmart dog trainer) to do an exposee on Petland. My writer actually got hired at Petland and plans to work there for two weeks to get some facts about how they operate. But I would still love to get more personal stories. God forbid, has anything like this at petland ever happened to one you? If so, would you care to share? |

| He is so cute.. glad to hear he is doing better. Just my opinion, but if I were you, I wouldn't post about the writer getting a job there. You don't want them to find out about it and foil the whole plan. Again, just my opinion. |

| I think it's wonderful that you are writing an article on this!! People need to realize that those puppies are coming from puppymills where their parents are not tested for any diseases/defects, and the breeders don't really care. Good for you!! And I'm so sorry that your furbaby had a liver shunt, but it's wonderful that he's getting better

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | PS - Fox news did a big story on Brushy Creek Kennels - much of why they decided to do the story came about because of posts right on this site (I had gone there and not bought a puppy but posted about it - come to find out LOTS of people had bought sick dogs there) People saw my posts and many got in touch with each other and now there's a big Class Action suit going on against that kennel. PLUS huge media attention in Texas. and if you do a search on Brushy Creek Kennels - you can pull up threads discussing it - then - after FOX did their story - Inside Edition picked it up and took it a step further by buying a dog undercover - so you CAN make a difference by doing these kinds of posts - this is long - but the 1st thread from the Reporter David @ Fox - http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=65087 |

| We had a Petland here, it didn't stay around long...a few years ago my sister bought a chihuahua from there,I told her NOT to do it), it died a couple of weeks later, they still wanted her to pay for the dog, she financed it through there, she took them to small claims court and the judge reamed them out and ordered the judgment in her favor....I'm not entirely sure but the pup may have had Parvo...

| I bought a yorkie from the Petland here and when we took him to the vet he was indeed sick. He had to have breathing treatments for a couple of weeks and medication for his ear infections. I do have to say that they paid for the vet visits and the medication. He is alive and well today, but I was very worried about him for a while. |

| Our Petland is near our Target and a bunch of stores I go to a lot. I see people walking in there and I want to jump out of my car and yell at them to stop supporting them. No one should buy ANYTHING there. They are evil and they act like they are doing nothing wrong. Sadly, most people don't know any better. THANK YOU for writing your story.

| Unfortunaly, in the US there are more dogs with liver problems than in other countries (for 35% more). That is genetic. http://www.akcchf.org/research/grant...hire%20Terrier http://www.vetsurgerycentral.com/pss.htm |

| a Petland just opened up here last month... i had never heard of them before and was so excited that another big pet store was here i went and checked it out. (and there are none that sell puppies) well the pups looked so sad and helpless. i wanted to take them all home. but the yorkies looked sick and tired. and they all seemed spacey or high. very sad.
