| microchipping vs tatooing Can someone give me more info on both these types of id's.. I am really leaning toward microchipping, is it painful? is there any risk of the body rejecting the microchip, I mean it is a foriegn body. Please help?!?

| How old is your baby? Both of mine were microchipped when they were spayed and neutered. If I could choose between the two, I would def. do microchipping because, in my mind, it would be less painful than tattooing. Also, sometimes tattoos morph or fade. The microchips now are so advanced. I use the Homeagain brand, and you can even add a picture of your pet that will come up when they are scanned. Plus, you can add multiple phone numbers to your profile. My vet did it while they were under anesthesia, maybe they could use a local for your baby?

| Loki got chipped when he got neutered. Sammy wasn't scheduled to get spayed for a month or two after we got her so they chipped her right in the office. She yelped, but then she was OK. The chip is about the size of a grain of rice and mine have never had any issues with them. I can't imagine tatooing would be that painless.

| Gus will be 5 mo on aug 2. My vet uses the resq brand thru bayer pharm. I looked up info on their website and there is on the $40. init. fee thru the vet. There is no annual fee and you register on line at petlink.net. I can't imagine the pain of tattooing him, but I am just weighing all our options. I can't imagine ever being without this little guy. He has only been with us 1 1/2 mos. but what a difference he has made. We love him so much. Thanks for all the info. This is my first yorkie so i will be asking lots of questions from here on....Also thanks for making us feel so welcome.

| Have y'all heard anything on the micro chip causing cancer? We mentioned to our breeder that we'd like to get our wee one chipped when he gets neutered. He advised us to look into it more since it could have that problem later on. The other ID method he suggested was tattooing. My husband has several tattoos and can't imagine a pup going through that. So we're not sure which to do now.

| tatoos Canine tatoos are nothing like human ones. I have had dozens done..they only go into a couple layers of skin compared to a humans...my Yorkies lay still and barely react..then it is over in 10 seconds..it is like writing with a pen on your skin. I prefer tats...people used to see my kennel name/with a number and say they bet no one would sell my Yorks..infact one of my retired Yorks went to a vet in the same county...the vet called me to make sure I have placed the dog and it was not stolen. I would chips and tats do both and have many times.. |

| Thanks for the info on the tats. That does make me feel a little better. I'll have to look into it more. My sis-n-law recently had to re-chip her dogs because the chips had migrated to another part of their body. I think it was chest. At least we'd know a tat can't move.
