Canine tatoos are nothing like human ones. I have had dozens done..they only go into a couple layers of skin compared to a humans...my Yorkies lay still and barely react..then it is over in 10 seconds..it is like writing with a pen on your skin.
I prefer tats...people used to see my kennel name/with a number and say they bet no one would sell my Yorks..infact one of my retired Yorks went to a vet in the same county...the vet called me to make sure I have placed the dog and it was not stolen.

I would chips and tats do both and have many times..
