| At how many weeks should the pup leave their breeder? My little girl that I am getting will be 9 weeks on Monday and the breeder stated that I could pick her up then. I went and visited the sweetie yesterday and she is adorable but I am worried that I may be taking her too soon. She seemed to be VERY nervous and I don't want to break her away too early as that may cause other problems down the line. Should I talk with the breeder and possibly let her keep her till the 12th week so she can have that time to still be around her parents and her little brothers or take her on Monday? Yes. I am still confused. A week later I am still asking 1 million questions lol. Thanks for all the advice so far. |

Bella Boo & Diggy Too! Donating GS Member | 12 weeks In my opinion 12 weeks old. Why I say this..... In my experiance HYPOGLYCEMIA.....caused by being taken from mom too early, stress, new environment, etc.. They are just so little and get hypo sooooo easy and it's no fun....Mine had hypo seizures from 8 weeks until he was 13 weeks. Its scary ugly and not good for the baby. I had no idea what was going on and I had to learn the hard way.... Your right to start this as many will agree with me (i hope) thats the longer you wait the better off your baby is..... Hope that helps!

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I think it varies. I think most folks on here are around 10-12 weeks. When I got my first Yorkie 20 years ago, we got him at 8 weeks. He was SO small and I spent the first several weeks just generally being terrified. When I got my next Yorkie more than 11 years later, I brought him home at 11 weeks. He was much more stable and a much better size -- at least for me. Should I ultimately do this again, I will definitely want to be in that 10-14 week range and come home with one that I'm not terrified of killing. |

| 12 weeks old atleast that's what's standard. There are certains vaccinations the get before they you can take em home and I agree with the seriousness of Hypogylcemia and being overwhelmed with stress because they're sooo young and small. In fact there are laws in many areas preventing sales of such puppies before theyre 12 weeks.

| I think age is not the only determination, but size as well. Some have a much slower growth rate than others, while some grow very quickly and grow bigger. I've seen some breeders that won't let them go before they obtain a certain weight. Some of the bigger yorkies can go at a younger age than the little one's.

| Thank you all again so much. I absolutely love this forum. I went ahead and talked with the breeder and we both agreed that it would be best. I think she may have initially seen my excitement for the pup and was willing to let her go a little earlier but I explained to her that I want whats best for my puppy and the thought of it sitting in my home and shaking and going through the anxiety all because I was too anxious didn't make me feel good at all. SO. I am happy now. It will be a few more weeks but it will be for the best. You all have taught me so much here lol. The breeder was like "WOW. You have truly been doing your homework". Thanks yall. |

| Welcome to YT. It's ok to ask a million questions. I got my baby when he was 9 weeks old. He did fine, he shook a little bit in the car ride home. But his other brothers and sisters had been picked up by the time that I got him. |

| i got romeo at 6 weeks old. he never had a problem - did not even cry once during the night or shake! he weighed 1.6 pounds. 90% of the ads for yorkies for sale in the area say they are 6 weeks old. i took him to the vet the next day to make sure he was as healthy as he looked even thought the breeder gave us his health report from the vet that took care of the mother and the rest of the litter. the dr. gave me a tube of the nutrical for him because i told her he had not really eaten much but that was all. after he had that a couple of times he has been fine ever since.

| Toy breeds should never leave a breeders home prior to 12 weeks of age and sometimes later, depending on their weight. There is more than just the weight factor. Mothers & breeders do alot of training, socializing, vaccinations, etc.

That is great! I know how hard it must be to wait a little longer, but your baby will be so much better off! That is one lucky puppy to be getting you as a mommy!!!!!!!!! And, it is great to see that the breeder isn't trying to push her out the door too early! Good luck and post the pics up as soon as you get the new baby! | |
