| O no, I stepped on her leg! its around 10:30pm right now, and i am feelin really bad, I just got my little Princess early this week and just a few minutes ago I went to put the trash outside the door and I turned around and stepped on my little babies leg, she cried out and started limping... my husband picked her up and gently pulled on her leg and she let another little cry. a few minutes later she started walkin normally and when i pull on it she no longer cries she can run and walk normally. I am just worried becuz she is only 8 weeks and I was wondering if i could have damaged anythng since she is so young, i plan on callin the vet tommorow morning, and right now she seems fine..any advice. I just feel like the worse mommy in the world!! |

| Aww don't feel bad! I know how you feel, when i first got oreo he was SO tiny and he's black and so is my carpet (well it's really dark dark blue) and he blended in, believe me we stepped on him SO many times i thought i broke him! but luckily I didn't As long as she can run fine now, she's alright. It's a good thing if your going to call the vet in themorning, just to be safe. Better be safe than sorry.. although i don't think she's hurt anymore. good luck and best wishes! |

| Awe, I know the feeling. Missy got hurt at 9 weeks, she hurt her leg and wouldnt stop screaming, I rushed her to the vet ER at 10pm and it was just a sprain. I think its a really good sign your little baby isnt crying anymore. If something was wrong you would know it

| You just need to keep watching that she is walking normally and giving even pressure to the leg you stepped on. If she is injured she may not cry everytime she takes a step, but she might not be using any pressure on that leg and be overcompensating with her other three. I would definitley run her by the vet to be sure! You are new to this, but one thing that is imperitive when you get a yorkie and EVERYONE will tell you the same thing.... your "walking" days are over, soon to be replaced with the "Yorkie Shuffle." Youu cant pick your feet up like in the olden pre-york days... you are forever committed to shuffling your feet throught the house. We don't even wear shoes in the house anymore for the very reason you posted. I have a friend that told me of a girlfriend of hers that was getting ready for work and had on high heels and stepped on her puppy and killed it. After she told me that... I have forever stood by the front door for putting on and taking off of the shoes, plus since I have to do the "shuffle" its easier in barefeet! I'm sure your little pup will be fine, but to ease your mind have her checked out to be safe! AND you are NOT the worst mommy in the world bc we have all done it or fallen on our faces trying to avoid it! I slammed my fingertips in a kitchen drawer this weekend bc Tino was standing under my feet and when I went to moved I lost balance and grabbed a half open drawer that when my weight pushed on it making it close on my hand!!! I was crying it hurt so bad a few of my nailbeds actually bled! BUT the good news is... Tino was fine! He looked up at me like, "what was that all about???" and then went back to chewing his Nylabone! You are a new mommy and this is how we learn this stuff! Thats why forums are great!

| I think we all know that "worse mommy in the world" feeling! I stepped on Maddie once with my clonky shoes and she just screamed and cried for about a minute. I felt like crap...hurting her like that! She turned out fine and since your little sweetie is no longer limping or crying, that she'll be fine too! Don't be too hard on yourself...your baby still loves you and has probably forgotten it even happened! |

| Oh Rocky's mama, you are not a bad mommy at all. I think we all have accidently stepped on our babies once before. I think if she is not crying or limping she will be fine. Is a good idea to call the vet to be safe. I got Gucci a collar that has a bell on it, that way I hear her and I know where she is. They are so small and they love to walk by our feet, that like LvMyYorki said after you get a Yorkie your walk is replaced with the "Yorkie Shuffle". Please keep us posted how she is doing. Gucci sent her a lot of puppy kisses. |

| My poor babies get kicked all the time. Just last night sitting here, I thought Bronx was by my foot, looked down, didn't see him, moved my foot and scooted him across the room. I feel so bad - sometimes if I just move, they will jump a foot away. They get pretty good at that. They just like to be close by. I have to be careful just leaning back in the chair, they will sneak up behind me and cozy up. Now I even tend to leave a foot behind myself just for them to have their spot.

| Rockys Mama, You are either feeling better or worse...better that you are not alone and we have all accidently done the same thing...or worse that all of these precious little Yorkies get stepped on quite a bit (LOL). I would want to be certain that a "growth plate" wasn't affected. However, none of us take the pup to the vet every time we step on them or accedently scoot them across the floor a little. My Tiah accidently got her tinly little foot stepped on my my Rotty when she was only 9 weeks old. She continued to hold it up so I took her to the vet and they put a little splint on her. I know someone else though whose puppy got stepped on and her leg continues to "go out" even as an adult. She can just gently manuever the leg back in place and the dog is fine. Anyway, use your "best judgment" .... you'll be needing a lot of it with a new Yorkie puppy...and welcome to the crowd!!!! |

| That reminds me of my first kitty. I got married at 20, my first day back at work my husband called to say something was wrong with the kitten. He thought she might have broken her leg. I got home and the little leg was horribly crooked, I rushed her to the vet and they set it and put a splint on longer than her tiny body. (Turned out he might have slammed the door on her) But she was the princess after that, he carried her gently to her food, litter box, soon she could climb curtains with that leg swinging back and forth - all the way to the top. it was so cute. Another lesson learned, never let tiny kittens climb your curtains. They get big, the tiny holes their claws put in curtains do too. He also called me at work one day to say my parakeet was sleeping on the floor of his cage - but that's another story.

| Don't feel bad! Anyone on this site who says that they have never stepped on their baby is lying!! LOL We've all done it, and we've all felt so guilty! You just learn to be really careful. After a while you get a sixth sense of where your baby is at all times. Mistakes happen - don't worry!

| Hi Laura: Just curious, you named your baby Bronx. I was born and raised in the Bronx many years ago. Are you originally from there?? |

| Well since we're all coming clean here... I stepped on Maddies leg coming off of a ladder (so it was most of my weight) on the second day we had her. I run about 240 for the record and I was sure I killed her for about 2 seconds. She limped/ran away from me as I tried to grab her and hug her making me feel like even more of a monster. Once I finally picked her up and calmed her down I massaged her leg a bit and she made no movements or sound so I knew she was okay. Didn't make me feel like any less of a heel though. I'm working on the mentality of ALWAYS assuming she's right behind my feet. Tom |
