| A silky terrier is a different breed from yorkshire terrier. I don't think it is a term for teacup. IMO, Silky yorkie would mean that the puppy is a mixed breed from a silky and a yorkshire. You can find out from the net the differences between silky and yorkshire. silky and yorkshire puppies are quite similar and there are cases where sellers sell silky puppies and pass them off as yorkshires. So, do practice caution and do more research on these breeds before committing to one. Hope this helps. |

| Silky Terrier is a different breed. It is similar in looks to a yorkie, but larger. Or are you referring to a coat type on a yorkie. |

| The Silky Terriers have a longer body, longer face, larger ears, a little taller and heavier. I see a lot of Silky in some of the Yorkies, so I'm sure there are some cross breeding going on. |

| A breeder once told me that you can determine whether or not you have a silky terrier vs. a Yorkie by taking a photo of it. If it has a red eye glow, it's a Yorkie; if it has a green eye glow, it's a silky. After seeing so many pics of Yorkies over the years, I really doubt this "fact", but I thought I'd mention it since it's a bit of info you're likely to come across in your search.

Lovin' 2 Girls Donating Member | Just a note of interest: there has been an ad in the local paper for a 'Silky Yorkie'. I thought perhaps someone just didn't know how to describe a silk-coat Yorkie. I'm HOPING this is not a mix, as they 'only' want $1,500 for the pup!

| breeders Do an achive search..we had a thread on this subject...Yorkies were bred into Austrailan Terriers by the English and Aussies to produce the Silky Terrier...BUT no Silkies were used to produce the Yorkie..eye flash color has to do with the texture of silk and soft among the Yorkie breed. |

| Years ago, my uncle worked for a well known person who owned a kennel and raised silkies and skye's. My uncle ran the kennels and trained them for the Madison Square Garden dog show (he didn't take them into the ring - he just got them ready). The silkies he had were larger than yorkies and beautiful. He actually sold Capt. Kangaroo a silkie (I know, some of you have no idea who that is, but some of you will remember him . From what I remember, the silkies were bigger than they seem to be now, or is it just that I am bigger than I was then? His had a different coloring, too. Similar look, but more hair over the eyes. That was in the early 60's so they have probably changed somewhat since then. But they were definitely a breed of their own.
