Hi Higgins Mom, I remember you said you knitted a sweater with 4 needles, If you still have that pattern, I'd like it. I haven't gotten any emails on it yet, maybe the pony is slow today. he he he he

Looking forward to getting some patterns, much appreciated, you know it gets really cold here in the northeast.

After your post today I emailed you and then started a red sweater for Higgins and I'm writing the directions down as I knit it......

If you want to start now.....

Worsted weight yarn 4 oz.
4 dpn size 8

Cast on 48 sts; divide them evenly on three needles; join, being careful not to twist; mark beginning. Now make a ribbing of K1, P1 for 3 inches for turtleneck or 3/4 inch for crew neck. Then knit one round.

From beginning marker: K19, inc 1, K7, inc 1, K19
Knit 1 round even
From beginning of marker: KI9, inc 1, K9, inc 1, K19
Knit 1 round even
From beginning of marker: K19, inc 1, K11, inc 1, K19
Knit 1 round even
From beginning of marker: K19, inc 1, K13, inc 1, K19
Knit 1 round even
From beginning of marker: K19, inc 1, K15, inc 1, K19
Knit 1 rund even
From beginning of marker: K19, inc 1, K17, inc 1, K19

Knit 3 rounds even

Stay tuned! I'm knitting as fast as I can!

I'm here, writing down the directions as I don't have my printer installed on my pc yet. I just got thru with fixing it, it was so bad I almost junked it.
Now that its all straightened out , I can even stay here in YorkieTalk without it shutting down on me or going the blue screen of death.

Thanks for the instructions, I'm following along with you...........Much appreciated. Using my hands to knit also helps my osteoarthritis.

Those increases help determine size. I have used 6 increases for Higgins, who weighs about 6.5 lbs. You may only want to increase a total of 5 times for your pups. If you want more width around, increase 6 times or more. Then when you have 60 stitches (or 58 if you only increase 5 times), you may only want to knit 1 or 2 rows even for a smaller sweater, or 5 or 6 rows for a larger one. This is the part that covers the dog's chest.

NOW THEN, you are going to separate the front (chest and tummy) from the back (over the dogs back) and make "armholes." The rule is 1/3 of the stitches become the front and 2/3 become the back. You will need to juggle the stiches around on your needles so that the 18 or 20 chest stitches are on one needle and the back 40 are on the other two needles. Now knit in stockinette stitch (K1 row, P1 row) BACK AND FORTH on just the chest stitches. For a really small dog, knit for 2 more inches, for a bit larger size, knit 2.5 or 3. I like to make Higgins armholes 3 inches. When the chest part is 2-3 inches, leave on the needle, but cut yarn. Now go back and knit the 40 or stitches of the back -- back and forth in stockinette stitch -- to the same length as the chest. At this point you need to JOIN the back to the front and start knitting AROUND on the needles again. Voila! You have armholes! Now you just need to knit that little sweater as long as you would like it. Little girl dogs can take a pretty long sweater. Higgins, however, will pee all over it if it's too long and goes over his you-know-what. So it's a matter of choice. When you are almost at the length you want, switch back to ribbing at K1, P1 for an inch or a little more.

You can now leave the armholes plain OR put in sleeves. Just pick up about 22 to 26 stitches around the armhole and knit in stockinette stitch OR ribbing for as long as you want the sleeve. Rib for at least a half inch if you use stockinette stitch.

I have inserted fun fur around the neckline and sleeves for fun.
The next one I make, I think I will use smaller needles for the ribbing parts and just do a rolled stockinette stitch. Could be cute.

My phone number is 207-582-0216 if you want to give me a call for further explanations.

I love knitting and it helps my osteoarthritis, too!

Oh, thank you so much !! I'm going to copy it all down and get started on them. I have a pattern for a sweater on a circular needle size 6, 16", maybe I can adapt that pattern on those needles.

I made my daughters mini- Italian Greyhound a few sweaters; they have very slim bodies, he's just 9 lbs so it was a challenge. He wears his sweater every day, indoors as he doesn't have much skin covering for fur. I attached a SNOOD in the neck area, its like a long turtleneck, and made legs on it with cuffs, they have a special curve in the back section to conform to their slim body. It came out cute !

In the case of the circular needle I'd just mark off the 3 places you mentioned and increase where you said to increase, it should work the same with the circular needles. I'm going to try it both ways anyways and see which is easier and let you know.

Thanks so much, really appreciate all your information here and help.
Will keep you posted.

We're just getting started! Just think: cables! Scandinavian designs! Aran fishermen's sweaters! Fun Fur! Eyelash yarn! Sequins and rhinestones! LOL

I love IGs! It's just too cold in Maine for them, though. They must look VERY haute couture in their sweaters!

Post pics!

My daughter has a lot of pictures of Mojo on the IGPOST.com, they even have a pix of an IG in a HULA Halloween Costume, complete with stuffed bikini top, with grass skirt bottom, its a riot. If you get a chance, check it out at http://www.IGpost.com under the photos section.

Talk about pc's, I just got thru using a "can of air" to blow out my CPU fan and the other 3 fans, trying to keep this pc working. I had a problem for a long time, couldn't figure it out with my son in FL. thru emails for a while. I would get the blue screen of death, freezing up and reboots.
Then I went into the BIOs screen and enabled the FAILSAFE, it worked and now I can get in here more. Before now I couldn't even stay on the page or go surfing anywhere.

Looking back on all the interesting information and stories on here that have been posted kept me busy for a while yesterday. Its all so interesting to be in touch with other YORKIE LOVERS.

BTW, the sweater I'm working on now is a FLECK color, tan with dark specks. Same color I knitted for my IG Grandson baby. He is such a good boy! He is to big to play with my little baby girls right now, he's just to lively and just over a yr. old. Got to wait till he slows down somewhat around them. I enjoyed an IG Playdate in MA recently, there were about 40 IG's there. What a site to see, some pix are on that IG site also. IT was fun to watch them all playing without any problems, they were all about the same size so there were no problems, except when Mojo stepped on a bee. OUCH ! Did he scream! Put ice on it and some benadril vet cream and after calming him down a half hr. sent him back to play. It would be so nice to have a Yorkie Playdate, don't you think?

I'm going to go and get breakfast for the girls so will check in here later on.
I haven't got my photo software in here yet, still building it back up to par.

DON"T FORGET TO CHECK OUT THE LUNAR ECLIPSE TONIGHT !

What elegant dogs IGs are! But I couldn't find Mojo....what's his mom's name on the IG board? It was fun looking at all the pictures of dogs that are the complete opposite of Yorkies! Slim, elegant, sleek, sooooo smooth. Not quite like the short, funny, messy, furry little guys we have.......

The play date sounds like fun. I love going to dog shows and seeing thousands of dogs politely walking around and getting along so well. Amazing.
I'm looking forward to seeing all the dogs at the RV Park where we camp in the winter. They have a "Dog Walk" every Tuesday morning. And last year we all had a potluck and brought our dogs. Quite a few Yorkies, too.....that's where we fell in love with the breed and got Higgins.

Thanks for the reminder about the Lunar Eclipse tonight.

And about tonight: GO SOX! GO SOX! GO SOX!

Oh gosh, she did have pictures of Mojo on there in his new sweaters, they only file the last 100 now. When I get my computer completely back together with photo program I'll send you the photos, they are so cute.

Yes, Its quite a change to go to her house and see a 'NAKED' IG, comparing him to our little girls that are like dust mops right now, very long hair !

I also have a nice pix of the girls in their Halloween costumes I'd like to get up here. I guess I got some working to do setting up these programs now.

Higgins Mom : Heres the site for the sweaters I made for my IG grandson.

http://members.aol.com/Graceleb/pattern.html

Hope the link works so you can take a look at it, its similar to what you are knitting but on a circular knitting needle. Just have to adjust it from the chest and back curve as the IG has a more slender body. I know you can figure it out.

More IG's in Halloween Costumes at

http://www.IGpost.com

and click on pictures. My daughters name is MOUSETR4P and she has posted a picture of Mojo, her Italian Greyhound in his costume and another picture of her with him in costume look-alikes. You'll probably have to go to the last 25 -50 pictures on the page to find it, they are in leopard costumes I made them.

I posted my Pumpkin Girls picture there in the OFF-TOPIC area too, because only purebred IGLETS can be posted in their photo book due to space.

I also left the message at IGpost.com for anyone that has YORKIES or knows of anyone that has YORKIES to please come to this site and join us.

Hope yall enjoy their pictures! I am known as MOJONANA at that site.
