| Is it just a doggy "terrible twos" phase? Advice please Over the last week or so Ferdinand has turned into a horrible dog. He used to be very well-behaved and now he's horrible. He no longer comes when I call him, he doesn't listen when I say "NO!", the progress we had made with potty training has totally gone out the door, he barks nonstop, and whines all night in his crate and keeps me awake Just when I started to think a lightbulb had come on in his head about potty training (he would stand by the door and scratch to go out), we went completely back to ground zero. I'll take him out and say "go potty" (he used to go right away), and he'll walk around for 10 or 15 minutes - or even 30 - then come back inside and go on the floor It's VERY frustrating. The barking.... OMG, it's nonstop. Sometimes it makes me want to pull my hair out! I love the little guy to death, but I just can't take it anymore! I've tried everything to get it to stop with no luck. Oh, and the crate thing. He used to sleep in his crate in the laundry room at the other side of the house. He would bark for 10 minutes or so, but then be quiet for the rest of the night. A friend of ours told us to bring him in to our room that he would be happier there and wouldn't bark at all. So I did. The first two weeks were great, we would get up in the middle of the night to go potty once, then quiety go back to sleep in his crate. However, now when he wakes up his one time to go potty, he whines and does what I call "talks" until I take him back out. He's relentless too. I tried to ignore him the first few nights and he'll whine until the morning when I get up, so I get no sleep. I don't know what to do anymore. Also, at 8 months should he be able to hold his potty until the morning? I take his water away 2 hours before bedtime. Any thoughts, ideas, or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated! I just don't know what to do anymore......... PS, sorry for the very long post.

| wow, our yorkies must be synchronizing with each other to say "heyyy, let's be naughty for awhile," hehehe. it really isn't funny, but here's another thread that i just posted to. we seem to be having the same problem. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=65216 and yes, i would think (depending on how small he is too, i guess) at 8 months, he should be able to hold all night. howie is 5.5 months old and he has. thanks and good luck. |

| Another thing I forgot to add in my original post. When we had him crated in the laudry room at night, he would pee and poo in his crate (yes, the crate is small enough that he can't pee on one end and sleep on the other). I don't get it? This is another reason I wanted him in our room at night, in case he did have to go, he could let us know instead of suffering. But apparently now he thinks I'll let him out every night to come play.

| Has there been a change in his schedule with you? Or is he getting less attention than usual? I know when I worked and was taking a class at night at a local college for a week Gracie acted up because her attention time was less. Also her schedule for potty time, play time, sleep time was a little bit different. After the class was over and things got back to normal she got back into the groove and didnt act up as much for attention.

| Well, I didn't think Sadie was ever going to get out of what I also called her terrible twos. I thought she was a permanent toddler. But it does get better. You say he's 8 months old. He is still a puppy. Sadie made a lot of progress at 1, then more at 1 1/2, then even more at 2. (She did some of the same stuff your little guy is doing)
