| Do you like your Yorkie?? Hello-I've been thinking of getting a yorkie, and wanted to know what everybody likes about them, or what you dislike about them. How much time do you spend grooming your Yorkie. Could I do it myself to save some extra cash? -we have a lab. From what I gather from reading, they'll get along. Is this true?? |

| Yorkies are great because they are compact and you can take them places with you. They are super cute as puppies but they also stay cute as adults. They love to give lots of kisses. They love to learn and are easy to train to do tricks. They love to please their owners. They get along with other dogs. If there is anything I would change about mine is that they are yappers. Not everyones are though so thats just my luck I quess.

| My responses are in blue! Hello-I've been thinking of getting a yorkie, and wanted to know what everybody likes about them, She's a good mix of bravado and cuddliness, she's small enough to sit on my lap, but tough enough to give the squirrels a run for their money or what you dislike about them. Sorry, my brain doesn't understand this question How much time do you spend grooming your Yorkie. When her hair was long, about 20 min. a day. Now that it's short, 5 minutes washing her face and putting her hair clip in...and a trip to the groomers every 6 weeks. Could I do it myself to save some extra cash? Many here do! -we have a lab. From what I gather from reading, they'll get along. Is this true?? I would just recommend you stay away from the really tiny ones...they can get hurt so easily, even in friendly play. Plenty of larger yorkies are out there!!! Good luck and welcome to Yorkietalk! Let us know what you decide.

| Welcome I love my yorkie, in fact I have 4. After owning several I became so enamored with the breed that showing and breeding them became my dream. I groom all of mine myself, figure it saves me about $200. per month. My show dogs are growing coat so it takes alot of grooming but my brood bitches get haircuts. They still look adorable and you'll be surprised how well you'll end up doing after some practise. Be patient with yourself and your baby. As far as getting along every dog is different, just supervise and dote on the old guy. You can get alot of questions answered here. Best of luck, they are just the sweetest little dogs!

| do i like my yorkie?? OBSESSED is more like it! I have 2, and if I could have more, I would have a whole house full! what you dislike about them?? Honestly, I cannot think of a single thing. My 2 are not barkers. If they were, I would say barking. How much time do you spend grooming your Yorkie? I spend about 5 minutes each a day brushing them Could I do it myself to save some extra cash? Absolutely! In fact, I save cash by doing it myself. I definately messed up a couple of times, but their hair always grows back. Now I have gotten the hang of it and am actually pretty good at it. they'll get along. Is this true?? No matter how much you trust your lab, I would not leave the lab and yorkie alone unsupervised, but generally, labs get along great with yorkies. In fact, my husband and I are adding two labradors to our family in the near future and we currently have 2 yorkies. |

| Do I like my Yorkie -- I LOVE MY YORKIE! I like the way he is so loving, always ready to give kisses, cuddle or play tug-of-war with his toys. I like the way he sounds when he sort of barks. I like the way he does not shed and has a beautiful coat. I like that it shines when I brush him each day, takes only about 10 minutes so far but he is still a baby. (I plan on grooming him myself as his coat grows out. -- I am sure you could learn too. Lots of books and videos to help). I like the way he looks, so sweet with his little teddy bear face. I like the way he is so confident and has no idea he is the littlest member of the household. He is fearless! I like the way he has won over every member of the house from DH and son to the other two canine members -- a dachshund and Jack Russell. He was not to be ignored! I like the way he goes 90 MPH and then just crashes for a nap, waking up ready to start again. I like the way he tilts his little head when I talk to him like he is trying to understand and I like the way sometimes he really does understand what I want. I likes the way he greets me when I come home from an errand like he thought I would never get back. I like his puppy dog breath. I like his puppy dog kisses. I like the way he likes to go with me in the car, trying so hard to see everything at once. I like the way he is sleeping on my feet right now. I like the way he wants one of my shoes to curl up with when he takes a nap if my feet are not handy. I like the way he chases our Jack Russell around the yard and never gives up trying to catch her. I love how his little tail wags at warp speed when he is having fun. I like how he stands on his hind legs and dances around for a treat. I like how he runs up and down on the little carpeted ramp my DH made him for the bed, couch and window seat. I even get a kick out of him hiking his little leg like he is a big dog or something. I don't like that he is not catching on to the potty training and that is the only negative I can come up with -- this will come in time and then....well I guess he will be absolutely perfect! You can't go wrong with a Yorkie!

| We have two Yorkies and one Akita-German Shepard (Luc). We've had Luc for a very long time and I tell you, the two little ones are sooooo much easier to take care of than Luc. We love our big pup, but the difference between the two is significant. Luc has to be taken to the groomers, because it's a challenge to give him a bath in the tub. He also needs his long hair cut. His grooming is pricey. Not to mention getting the kids to pick up his dog poop!! With Luc, we're on a time schedule to make sure he's not in his crate too long. Our two Yorkies are much easier to take care of. I can bathe them both in the sink or in our tub. I learned how to cut their hair, which cuts down on the cost. I comb their hair every day, which doesn't take long. If I need to go anywhere and can't take them, they stay in their play pen. Plus the cost of food is cheaper than Luc's food!! What I dislike about them? Well, my one 7mo. old is potty-trained-challenged. But we're working on it We are extremely happy with our two Yorkies and we are actually getting another one after Thanksgiving. Hope you decide to get one too

Dislike: taking while to get potty trained. They dont get it right way like some dogs do. Still its hard to get mad at them for potting on the floor, when they give you that sad little, I am sorry mommy look. How much time do you spend grooming: Well I give my girls a bath every 4 to 7 day.. there just SO low to the ground, everything gets on them. It only takes about 30-40 min to wash, brush and blow dry both of them, but my girls have medium length hair.. but the longer it is.. the more time you spend on it. You can cut your yorkies hair your self, but remember if you mess up... its only hair and it will grow back! It will take a few times of you doing it, till you can get it JUST right. And the question about will a lab get along with a yorkie.... As long as the lab is friendly and is not aggressive in any way, he/she will get a long with a little yorkie. I baby set a lab last week and he LOVED my little 3 lb bella! I think it was love a 1st sight! he would whine every time she fallowed me out of the room. I thought it was SOO cute! | |

| I OBSOLUTELY ADORE MY YORKIES!!! I LOVE MY YORKIES Love - their spirit, little dog complex, smart, small, cuddling, cute little faces, lovable. Dislike - my male is a BARKER. Hair Maintenance. I brush a few times a week, keep my male short and female long. I bath myself when needed and take them to a groomer every 6 weeks. Great dog!! Good luck!! |

| welcome to YT Welcome to YT! If you came here expecting to hear people complaining about their Yorkies, you came to the wrong place. We are kind of FREAKISHLY devoted to our little dogs. The evidence: 1--some of the dogs here have larger wardrobes than their owners 2--we build ramps and buy stairs so they can get into bed with us. 3--we kiss our dogs ON THE MOUTH 4--there's a guy from Alaska on this site who has enough film footage of his 2 yorkie boys to make a several feature length movies. 5--If he actually did make feature length films starring his Yorkies, each of us here would pay to see them (but only if we could sneak our own Yorkies into the theater with us). 6--many of us would prefer so spend time at home with our Yorkies than go out and meet other people. 7--some of us actually examine our pup's poop, and if it looks even a little unusual, we'll take a picture of it and post it on this site. 8--Personally, I named my jazz band after my dog (The Edith Jones Project) and I am convinced that she appreciates music. 9--We pay ridiculous amounts to take them on airplanes with us so we won't have to leave them when we go on vacation. Being a Yorkie parent isn't for everyone. It can be a 20 year commitment. I didn't feel that my life was stable and settled enough to have one until I was 42 years old! If you decide to go ahead and bring a Yorkie into your life, Congratulations and welcome to the freak show.... |

| I dont think there is a question of how much I love my Yorkies... I have 2 and the only reason I wouldnt want another is I have 3 other pups... the only thing I could possibly not like is they are STUBBORN when it comes to potty training... I have a 95 lb. lab who lives inside with my 16 lb. yorkie and my 4 1/2 lb. yorkie.. they get along super.. my lab and my bigger yorkie are BEST BUDS! They can wrestle, play, sleep, hang out, and just love each other.. If they are your only pups I would also suggest getting a larger yorkie because they make the best of buddies. I also agree never to leave them alone together. LAbs are very gentle but if Laci stepped on my little Hopey by accident it wouldnt be pretty. Good Luck to you! d

| Why do I love yorkies? See my signature. Grooming time? that depends don how much time you want to spend grooming them. If grooming isn't your thing, keep them in a puppy cut. I love doing mine. they get bathed and hair done every Sunday, and a redo on the hair throughout the week as needed. They learn to sit very patiently, and believe me mine have to be patient. I have no sensation in my hands and tend to get shakey when doing something that requires a steady hand. so it takes me a while, sometimes many trys to get the bands in. |
