| I LOVE my 2 yorkies! I bought Lucy in March at 3 months and was so enamoured that I went back in October and got Rebel at 6 weeks. Lucy has short hair on her body but long on top so she gets brushed daily and hair put up. Rebel is just a little furball (11 weeks now) and he gets brushed just a little daily to get him used to it. They both have different personalities that you can see immediately, and are so intelligent it's scary.

| No, I don't like my Yorkie. I LOVE my Yorkie! What do I like best about her? Everything! Except maybe pooping where she is not supposed to, but she is still just a puppy. What do I like least about her? See the previous answer. As my puppy school instructor says, puppies don't fail, people fail their puppies. Grooming? Maybe an hour a week. We both enjoy that time together anyway.

| my yorkie is great. i adore him. i treat him as my child. likes- compact, hypoallergenic,non-shedding,lovable,cute,smart, he's my best friend. dislikes- a little yappy grooming 4 us is not a problem. he has a puppy cut. (no knots or daily combing required) i get him groomed about every 3 months and my mom trims him up in between. romeo is very social. he likes labs and all big dogs. i believe if they are well socialized as pups they will play well with others.

| Ooooh, I forgot to add that not only do we here at YT love our own yorkies, but we also follow other's Yorkies. We know them by photo, name, and their owner's YT username. And we talk so much about them that our family knows these names and photos also!!! We worry when they are sick and we cry and grieve when they cross to the Rainbow Bridge. So, welcome to the family!!

| Do I like my yorkies? No. I dearly love both of them more than I do most people! They are always soo happy to see me when I come home, even if I was only gone 5 minutes! They are lovable, and great lap dogs! Don't get one if you don't want them to sleep in the bed with you though. Sleeping in the bed with you, is almost mandantory! My 2 are so entertaining too! The things they'll fuss over. Also when I go out of town, nobody ever mind Adonis coming too. He's no trouble at all. I haven't been out of town since I got Venus though. I can't think of much I dislike about either. But I do get aggitated trying to train my new one. My 5 year old is an angel. Now my 5 month old has chewed a lot of things, I wish she hadn't. And like any dog, till you get them trained like you want them, it will be aggitating at times. Time spent grooming...one my older one about 5 minutes a night. I've kept his body hair short. Most of the 5 minutes is redoing his top knot. Now the baby, since I got the cowboy magic, about 20 minutes a night at the most. She's got to where she falls alseep when I comb her matts out. Can you do it yourself? Sure, but some is trial and error, and it takes buying some stuff to get started with. I know if I took my baby to get groomed, they'd shave her before they'd take time to get the mats out. Using the stuff that was recommended here, I get them out easy! They look impossible, but a little cowboy magic goes a long way! I'd never take either of mine to a groomer, I trust nobody cutting my babies hair! I can't say whether she'll get along with your lab or not. My sis has 3 larger dogs. Adonis knows which ones are freindly, and he does tend to stay away from the yellow lab, who's been known to growl at him. My older yorkie, loves all dogs, and is a very friendly dog. So is Venus but she's a little young to socialize a whole lot yet. |

| I adore our Yorkie. I used to be an avid film/movie go-er. But now I can hardly stand being away from Lucinda that long! When we went to New York in September we forked out the 160.00 so that she could fly with us. We plan on going out of the country in 2007 and as eager as I am to go to Thailand, I already dread being away from her. We have two cock-a-poos. One is 8 and one is 4. They weigh over 20 pounds each. Lucinda completely holds her own with both of them. They are now a very compatiable pack of 3. I have also owned other dogs and I must tell you that what I read on the internet is true...Yorkies are not like other dogs. They are so interesting,so inquisitive, so intentional! And of course, captivating to look at....so cute!!!! I can not put into writing what it is that is so different about them from other breeds but they are in their own class. It took me awhile to adjust. It was this web site that helped me to understand her. Lucinda is not a yapper. She became completely housetrained at 7 months...she uses a doggie door like the other 2 dogs. Read about them on this site for awhile so that you will be aware of how it is to raise a Yorkie. I would have a dozen if I could! |

| It's funny that I saw your post just now while I am watching our 7 yr old yellow lab giving kisses to our 3 month old yorkie. When we first brought Butch home I didnt know if they would ever get along, now less that 1 month later they chase each other around the house or the yard and give each other kisses. I agree that their play should be supervised especially with a puppy, but Shooter and Butch are buds now and usually get along just fine. elli and Butch and Shooter |

| I've been trying to decide between a Yorkie and a Havanese. I just cann't decide and need to do a little bit more poking at everybody. I'm convinced I love the yorkie, but I don't wanna get a dog that's not gonna fit in well. (being too small and compact, even though that's what I love). I'm just afraid that what I love isn't gonna fit in well. Am I just being way to Paranoid?? I just cann't decide, and its' driving me crazy. Rascal, our lab (female-60lb) is very mellow, and I wouldn't doubt she will be gentle with a yorkie. I have two older brothers in college, so they're not home much, but when they are, she sometimes playes rough with them. otherwise is plopped on the floor chewing something or of course slepping. When they're not home, all she does is sleep on the floor and never gets up. Personally, to her, I think a yorkie would just be a little squirt roming around the house. I doubt if she'll even care. one of my moms friends knows someone who has a yorkie, and they say it's kinda "snotty". I've never heard that before, and that's what's kinda turning me off about the Yorkie, plus it's tiny size (which is what I like, but maybe it would be just too small). But with the Havanese, it's a little bit bigger. I just love tiny dogs, and that's where the yorkie fits in, but it seems like the Havanese more "stockyness" might be a little bit better for living conditions. What do you think?....I feel like my heart falls for the yorkie, but somehow I feel like it wouldn't work out right. I have no idea why I feel that way. I know Rascal is gonna be fine, and I know that I'm gonna love having an adorable little dog to love. Maybe by spring, when I'm planning on buying, I'll have made up my mind, which one I really like and will work out well. ![]() Thanks everybody for the replies, I'm just not sure where I'm going yet. I've been meaning to get to a pet store **just to look**at the two. I know it's easy to fall in love with puppies, but I just want to see and get to know them both before making my move. contacting breeders and going to shows are also something I might try. |

| Donating YT 7000 Club Member | I love my yorkies. (we have 2) I also have a chocolate lab mix, who loves them both dearly. He'd probably protect them with his life if it came to that. I'm not sure what your mom's friend meant by them being "snotty", unless she meant that they don't like going out in the rain or something like that. And you could get a bigger yorkie. That way, you wouldn't have to constantly worry about it being safe or getting hurt. My yorkie Tucker is 14 pounds, he thinks he can fly and has tried it a few times, and he's never gotten hurt. Same with my other yorkie Maddie, who's 6 1/2 pounds. And also about looking at the dogs at pet stores, they may have different personalities than dogs from breeders. Like, the pet store in the mall around here has yorkie puppies. And I had always thought that the personality that those dogs had (sleepy, chewy, yappy) was how they all were. But after getting one from a breeder, they're actually a lot different. Good luck!!!!!

| YT 3000 Club Member | I adore my chester boy so much, I do not know what I would do without him, he is a cuddler, he knows all of his commads, he is very smart, he loves his momma so much he would go after a pit bull to save me, they are great watch dogs chester hears everything but he is not a yaper, people that do not like little dogs adore chester, he loves kids, people and cats. I would rather stay home with him that visit most of my friends. We just went on a 3200 mile raod trip together and he is a great traveler start the early, socialize them alot and take them to puppy classes, I did with chester, when I come home from stressful hospital work he is so excited to see me, they love to be with their people, I keep his hair short and groom every 8 wks or so. I would do anything for this dog and if anybody laid a hand on him it would not be pretty. |

| And the potty training........how long can a baby wait B/4 having to be let out to potty? Do you take them with you before they're totally potty trained, or can they stay home a couple hours. Do they catch on after a couple months or how long does it take?? After they're trained, they're leave-able at home..right? I mean, of course not for hours on end, but like for a little while. (like....3-4 hours) Some people say they're trustable 6 hours...???? ....... |
