| Does anyone elses dog become a demon when getting their nails clipped? The vet did kizzys the first couple of times, then I tried and just couldnt, hubby tried to help me and we both together couldnt do it. I took her back to the vet and the vet and his assistant and one of the girls that works there did it, yet the girl still got scratched on her arm and face. And this last time the vet and his assistant tried it and finally had to put a muzzle on her to finish and I was helping hold her back legs. the vet was laughing, saying "I think this is the fastest dog with her mouth that ive ever seen and not too slow with the feet". she goes into a fit. all 4 legs going, scratching like a cat and her head constantly turning to bite every time they even touch her leg to pull it up. but I have to admit she did do better on the first foot which wasnt great, then they had to get the muzzle. That is the only thing ive ever had a problem with kizzy about as far as grooming. she is good as can be about her bath, bows, combing and all. but she turns into the pure devil on the toenails.

| Oh i know this problem well, Brambles becomes a squeeling wriggiling little monster ! i have no troubles with any of the others Basil is great but he is the only one we have had from a pup, and because of the troubles with Brambles i started holding Basils paws and claws from day one ,and he is good as gold now, but Brambles , well we have tried everything the vet wont even attempt it now! the only person that seems to have any luck is his Groomer (Wonderful Woman by the way) and even she cant do it every time! its such a nightmare...

I agree, my groomer cut my Levi's nail too low and it bled like mad, she SMACKED him and BLAMED HIM needless to say she was never allowed back again. He won't let me even hold that paw now unless he is asleep, and when his nails are cut now the vet has to do it and not his current groomer, as he is so scared now. He has to be muzzled too, and yet he is the sweetest most loving little boy ever. This one bad experience has meant all this. I do hope yours wasn't cut too low, and that someday it will get easier and your baby will get more used to it, although to be honest I don't know many dogs who like having thier nails cut. Sometimes it's the NOISE they don't like too. | |

| well they did clip into the quick twice now. But thats been since she became a terror and is fighting and biting them. She never had been clipped into the quick before she got this way. She dont care for me washing between her paw pads, combing the hair on her feet or anything, just dont try to hold her foot while your holding those clipper things. she knows exactly what yu have and then she starts. I dont understand why she is this way and not getting any better either.

My furkids Donating Member | I think the breeder may have clipped Sadies nails to short before I got her...She acts like a mad dog when I try to clip them...I have tried everything from nail drill (the kind the nail tech's use) to a dog nail file...she wouldn't stand for it. This is what I do now and it seems to work..When I give her a bath I put water in the sink (just enough to cover her feet, I usually just use the hose to bathe her) this will soften the nails. After I soap her up I tell her how good she is and then start clipping..I'm not saying that she LOVES it this way but It is much easier and she stands pretty still..Lillie (my new furbaby 17 wks old) she just sits there and watches what I am doing..

| I dont think kizzys breeder ever cut hers as she was only 6 weeks when i got her and hubby wonders if she was even that old, she didnt have one tooth in her mouth when we got her. He says hes never heard of a dog being weaned and no teeth at 6 weeks old. He wasnt with me when I got her, but he still wonders if she was even that old because maggie was 8 weeks and she had a mouth full of teeth and kizzy laid around a lots more than maggie altho she was 2 weeks younger but now kizzy is more hyper and goes at everything wide open and maggie is pretty laid back and cool.

As far as clipping nails - as a dog groomer let me tell you that yorkies are frequently terrible on their nails. Seriously, I clip dogs nails every day and I can't do Brandy's nails myself. The last time I needed to do them I had her at work and after struggling to get three feet done I asked my boss to do the last foot (my boss can get even the worst dog's nails done) and it took her a full 5 minutes to do that one foot. I can do Titan's but it's still not pretty. I know Brandy's never had a nail bled so she has no reason to be so bad about it. I have had a couple successes with distracting her with peanut butter spread on the counter. All I can say is anyone with a young puppy start clipping them now and do it frequently. When Brandy was a puppy I clipped them a couple times with no problem and then forgot for a couple months and next time I clipped them she was a nightmare and has never been good about it again.
