| I'm Thinking of Getting a Second Yorkie I'm so excited! We are moving house on Wednesday and our new home has a lovely garden for my little baby boy who is now 21 weeks. I absolutely just love having him and my hubby has agreed for me to start looking for another. There is a lovely breeder in Shropshire who I'm keen to get a puppy from. She only breeds from time to time and has no problem keeping me in mind for her next litter - so there's no hurry. I want to make sure I get the perfect puppy. I have some questions though: I have read that it's better to get one of the opposite sex. Is this true and what are everyone's experiences in this regard? I intend having Badger neutered at six months by the way I've also read that it's not advisable to walk two Yorkies at a time for various reasons. Is this correct? One problem we do have walking him in the area we live in is that there are a lot of Staffordshire Bull Terriers and a high incidence of attacks on small dogs, particularly Yorkies. It's already very stressful walking just one and I don't know how I would cope with keeping an eye on two or trying to get both out of harm's way if I had to (we've already had two bull terriers try to attack him and I got him out the way at the last minute). Would it be very cruel to walk one and leave the other at home and then walk that one later? While there's no immediate rush to get a puppy, would it be better to wait until Badger's older or could I look to have one in, say, a few months? I've heard differing opinions on this again - with some people saying get them while the other's still a puppy and some saying get one when they're older Badger is also quite a shy boy. He's not vicious at all with other dogs - if anything he's very timid with them. Would this be a problem for him? I would hate to get another dog as a companion for him only to make him more miserable and shy Thank you so much in advance for any tips and advice! Annie x |

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | First of all, congratulations! I stressed and stressed for about a year about getting a second Yorkie, but I've never regretted it. I would have no qualms about getting a third and plan to in a couple years. That's the only advice I can give you that I'm confident about, though. I got a second male, and it's been a problem. My first Yorkie, 2-year-old, 8-pound Eddie, won't allow 10-year-old, 4-pound Jack to play with any toys. Eddie is docile and friendly in all other instances, and they even eat out of the same bowl, but he insists on being alpha with Jack over toys. And his admonitions are violent. It's gotten better in the 6 months we've had Jack, but not good enough. Eddie plays nicely with a female chihuahua that visits regularly. Both are neutered. Based on my limited experience, I'd think twice before getting two males again. As for walks, I always walk the two of them together, but we don't have a problem with big dogs picking on them. When one comes around, I've always had time to scoop one or both up if I sense danger. If big dogs attacking is a regular occurrence, then no, I wouldn't walk the two of them at the same time. It's a little difficult to get control of two dogs in a hurry. Good luck!

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I have 2 females although one's a 9 year old pom. I stressed for many years about getting a yorkies again while I still had Maya who is a snappy 13 lb pom. It has worked well considering the age and temperment difference. They will lay together and play sort of but if there's a cookie involved there are some little tiffs. Nothing serious. I LOVE ahving 2 dogs and want a third, another Yorkie. I do walk both of them together but May a is old and slow so she follows a little behind us with a leash dragging and when we get to far ahead Cali waits up for her. We live in a very quiet little traffic subdivision so I can always grab Maya's leash if I see anyone.

| hi annie id say yes get another one and as badger is shy it might help him come out of his shell a bit. i think it would prob be better to get a female as some males do row over things as 2 females can, but saying that tye and zac love each other to bits but then they are twins so have always been together and brandi and annie get on really well but do give each other the eye now and again over food.as for walking them both together if you dont feel you could pick them both up quickly then i would say walk one at a time or get someone else to walk one while you walk the other so you have 2 pairs of hands just incase you have a prob with another dog. have you thought about getting a rescue yorkie?

| Thank you all for your responses! And Hi Sashajade . I agree that it will help Badger be more outgoing although I'd hate to get a pup that dominated him. I haven't thought about getting a rescue Yorkie. We did call about those little Yorkies that were found in that shed but we couldn't take one because the lady we spoke to said we didn't have enough experience with them which was fair enough. I've always been told that Battersea have quite a strict screening process which is why I've never attempted enquiring but I will think about it. Thank you Does anyone else have any thoughts? I'm quite concerned about these questions so any input, advice or experience would be great. Thank you! |

| On walking the dogs, I highly suggest you get a coupler so you have control of just one leash. I have not yet walked annie as she is not complete with her shots so she is in a celtei purse whilst Tiger enjoys the walk. I make them to match the harnesses so if you ever need one some day . . . . |

| Oh Hey Des!! I'll keep that in mind, thank you! I'm soooo excited. I can't stop thinking about it. I think I might get a little girl this time. I wish, wish, wish we had got his brother now. They were so close and he cried and cried when he first came here and I think it was because he missed him. When I go to pick up the next one, I'll probably come home with two others so if you can make a quadrapule harness that would be awesome! Got some wonderful pics of Badger from today which I'm just about to put up in the My Yorkie section. He's in his Go Fetch harness so I'm sure you'll just love them! x |

| One thing to look into is how to control an aggressive dog so that when you are out with your babies you can quickly take control of a dangerous situation. I've read about certain "stances" and "tricks" to dealing with the dogs that are more prone to aggression. It might be worthwhile you looking into that to help in the case of an emergency. |

| i have a problem with aggressive unleashed dogs in my neighborhood too. i have one yorkie and i keep a can of spray mace hanging from my leash handle. in an emergency i can scoop romeo up in one arm and spray the aggressive dog. it's a shame that i have to prepare for such a situation. i have not had to spray a dog yet , but a few weeks ago before i had the spray a pit bull jumped a fence and was on my back. a landscaper came to our aid and saved us from attack. i'm considering getting a second dog too. i just can't decide either. it's a big responsibility. i would be devastated if anything ever happened to romeo. |
