| What is causing this coughing? Hobbs has a bit of a cough, and I cannot figure out what is causing it. He has had kennel cough before, and the cough sounds the same as when he had kennel cough, but he doesn't have any of the other symptoms of kennel cough. And I cannot possibly think of anywhere where he could have picked up kennel cough. He coughs a couple of times every other day or so. It isn't at any specific time, either. The other night he woke up coughing, today he coughed while he was playing, but yesterday I took him on a long walk and he didn't cough. Could it possibly be a collapsed tranchea??? I have read that collaped trancheas usually occur in dogs that are older, and Hobbs is only 7 months. AND I have always used a halter on him. And, I have read that a collapsed tranchea cough is a honking, where Hobbs' cough is more of a choking. Any input would be greatly appreciated!! Should I just take him to the vet? Whenever he coughs at night, I always say I'll take him the next day, but then he won't cough for a couple of days. What should I do?! |

| This site has a good article on how to determine if it is a collapsed trachea. http://glassyorkies.homestead.com/care.html#anchor_7144 |

| Hey there! I would take him to the vet. They might can look down his little throat and see if there is something down there giving him fits. Hope he feels better really soon!

| I have a similar problem with my wee girl.It started on Friday and I took her straight to the vet. There was nothing stuck in her throat, but her lymph nodes were a little swollen. Her temp was normal, though, She is immunised against kennel cough and the only contact she had had with others dogs in the previous two weeks was when she went to the vets to be spayed! The vet concluded that she may have swallowed something the wrong way and hurt ther throat. Like you I use a harness. She is still coughing a few times a day,but is otherwise bright and lively. I give her a drink when she coughs. She is six months old.I wouls be interested in others' ideas too. Surly the vet would have known if she had a collapsed trachea?

| I have a similar problem- my boy only coughs some at night when he is getting ready to go to sleep. I took him to the vet, of course he didn't cough at all, his lungs were clear, his thoat appeared to be fine- everything checked out normal. I don't know what it is- allergies maybe? I am thinking maybe he is allergic to something that is in my bedroom or bathroom?? I can't figure out what is different in that room from all the others... Sorry I can't help you, I just wanted to mention that I am having the same problem. If you figure it out, please share! |
