I have a similar problem with my wee girl.It started on Friday and I took her straight to the vet. There was nothing stuck in her throat,but her lymph nodes were a little swollen.Her temp was normal, though, She is immunised against kennel cough and the only contact she had had with others dogs in the previous two weeks was when she went to the vets to be spayed! The vet concluded that she may have swallowed something the wrong way and hurt ther throat. Like you I use a harness.
She is still coughing a few times a day,but is otherwise bright and lively. I give her a drink when she coughs.She is six months old.I wouls be interested in others' ideas too. Surly the vet would have known if she had a collapsed trachea?
