Question What is causing this coughing?

Hobbs has a bit of a cough, and I cannot figure out what is causing it. He has had kennel cough before, and the cough sounds the same as when he had kennel cough, but he doesn't have any of the other symptoms of kennel cough. And I cannot possibly think of anywhere where he could have picked up kennel cough. He coughs a couple of times every other day or so. It isn't at any specific time, either. The other night he woke up coughing, today he coughed while he was playing, but yesterday I took him on a long walk and he didn't cough. Could it possibly be a collapsed tranchea??? I have read that collaped trancheas usually occur in dogs that are older, and Hobbs is only 7 months. AND I have always used a halter on him. And, I have read that a collapsed tranchea cough is a honking, where Hobbs' cough is more of a choking.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!! Should I just take him to the vet? Whenever he coughs at night, I always say I'll take him the next day, but then he won't cough for a couple of days. What should I do?!
