| Exercise, etc. I don't have a Yorkie yet, but am wondering if they are capable of walking with me on my three mile walk everyday, providing it is not too hot nor cold? I have heard they are very active, but think this may be a bit overkill for them. Also, what size crate is good for a Yorkie? Someone mentioned to get a bigger sized Yorkie. How in the world would I know that if I get them as a pup? Thanks. Kate |

| a yorkie would do ok on a walk that long, provided its not too hot..... my yorkie was 3 lbs at 12 weeks and he is 9 lbs now (i have seen people with the same weight at the 12 week mark and get 7 lb dogs) its not not an exact science, but if at 12 weeks a pup weighs 1.5 lbs, it will be small another option you might consider is a silky terrier they look similar to yorkies but are larger........ LMAO...... if you want to know about a larger yorkie contact browniesmom |

| There's no way either of my dogs would be able to handle a 3 mile walk, especially not one everyday. My yorkie is only 14 weeks old, but I'm not sure he'd EVER be able to walk that far. He's barely able to keep up with me when we go on hour long walks on the walking trail. I usually have to carry him on the way home. My other dog is a 130lb mastiff who tires after walking for only 20 mins! It'll be interesting to see what the other yorkie owners say |

| how big is your yorkie pinkmartini????? lol.... a mastif???? well i guess that IS a lot of weight to lug around all the time, what with their size and all.... If you had a yorkie like mine, you could go on a 10 mile walk if you wanted too, he never gets tired i shoulda named him energizer |

Bailey only weighs 2lbs 3oz right now and is guesstimated to weigh around 4-5lbs full grown. I take him on walks every night and usually half way through (about 30 min or so) he just lays down and looks at me like "Mom, pick me up!" | |

| I have a 9 lb. slender but tall 2 yr. old that loves to go on 45 minute+ walks/jogs with me when the weather is not too hot or too cold. I usually spend most of the time in a slow jog or fast walk. I think she would like me to go faster than I do, but I am only human! I usually get home and crash on the couch while Lucky the energizer bunny still wants to run around and play! I think that the key is to pay attention to your dog's body language to determine when or if the dog has had too much. You may need to work up to 3 miles gradually, but if your dog is anything like mine, it won't take long. |

| Carter is 9 months old and about 3#. He LOVES to walk. To walk the length of my street and back (one street neighborhood) is one mile and Carter easily handles it including running part of the way. If I weren't so lazy or always in a hurry, he'd easily handle 2 or 3 miles. I think his goal in life is to be outside no matter what! Lisa
