I have a 9 lb. slender but tall 2 yr. old that loves to go on 45 minute+ walks/jogs with me when the weather is not too hot or too cold. I usually spend most of the time in a slow jog or fast walk. I think she would like me to go faster than I do, but I am only human! I usually get home and crash on the couch while Lucky the energizer bunny still wants to run around and play!

I think that the key is to pay attention to your dog's body language to determine when or if the dog has had too much. You may need to work up to 3 miles gradually, but if your dog is anything like mine, it won't take long.
