| Growing out of what you expected!! Well, I got a yorkie as present from my husband, but he bought her from newspaper phone and without seing the parents and the breeders. He has done all by e-mail and they sent pictures to him of their dogs and discussed about sizes of the puppies. I always wanted a small tiny yorkie because we do have already a big dog which is not going very well with the new one and because i always loved the small ones. Somebody brought me the yorkie as a surprise and was small as puppies and black and tan,now she seems to start changing the colour to a Silver from head and also has already a size of 15 inches,so i don't know if my husband has been told the right size of the dog but i have a felling that this little one won't be the little dog i was wanting all the time. If anyone has a opinion about it please i would be happy to take as an advise. Also she doesn't seems to be barking problem but now i am also unsure about her colour to be. Thank's to all. |

| Well, not to be rude, but honest. If your husband did not do his research and meet the breeders/parents, there is no way to be sure how she will turn out. (Half the time, you don't get what you expect even when you do.) As for the color, that is normal--Yorkies commonly change to a lighter shade as they get older. Not sure about the inches thing, but will you lover her any less if she is bigger than you expected? Why the emphasis on size? |

| So sorry to hear that your husband has been duped...but, from the sound of your post, he wanted a nice present for you and did not do research about the breed and the breeder. You say that the color is changing, which is the usual way for a Yorkie, or a Silky or an Aussie Terrier to develop their adult coat. It sounds as if you should either take the puppy back to the breeder if you absolutely cannot bond with it (but, I doubt that is the case and she has already stolen your heart!) There are many places to learn about the breed and what you need to know to select a breeder and a puppy. Please learn all you can before you buy another Yorkie if you decide you are still looking for a small one. The breed standard is available several places and it sounds as if your dog is already almost twice as tall as the standard..you don't mention the weight so she probably weighs a lot more than 7 pounds. I hope you will just keep that baby and love it with all your heart. After all, more than one Yorkie is a VERY common thing amongst the members on here... BTW, welcome to YT |

Yorkie Lover Donating Member | I agree...you can never guarantee what color or at size they will be....they can be black and tan, or silver and tan, or all silver, or even all tan!! You can never say for sure...and even if your little one came from small parents it doesnt' mean the babies will be small....my Sailor out grew both of her parents!! Yorkies are all different and that is what makes them so unique...since you didn't do your research on the parents and the breeders there is no way to even tell what she will be like once she is full grown!!!

| Im sorry that your yorkie isnt all you expected it to be,but they are small dogs anyway so does it really matter that she isnt teeny tiny? They are great dogs with great personalities and one of the great things about them is that you never know what they will turn out like They can be grey, blonde, both! tan, black, blue etc etc..They are all totally unique! I dont think Iv ever seen two yorkies alike and that is just what I love about them I hope you do bond with your new yorkie because she wont let you down Mine could suddenly turn pink and put on 60lbs and sheŽd STILL be my baby |

| When I got my Yorkie the breeder told me that he would be probably around 5 to 6 pounds but no guarantees. Well, I think he might pass that weight. I also thought I wanted a "tiny" Yorkie but have since gotten over that feeling. I have read and heard so much about the increase chances for medical issues. I have children and another dog and honestly my stout little boy is just perfect for us. I love him with all my heart and it doesn't matter to me how much he ends up weighing in the end. Hopefully you will bond with your little baby and won't be able to consider life with anyone else. Good luck!!!!

| Yorkie newborns look like little Dobes or Rotties. Then they get fluffy and are black with tan markings. However, this has nothing to do with how they will look as an adult. If your Yorkie puppy was stolen and a year's time passed....you wouldn't recognize it. They change so very much. No one can tell you exactly what color or size it will be...only a best guesstimate. However, that part is fun too. With all of that aside, I do hope there is a mutual love between the two of you . |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Cali is prettt tiny and I have had thousands in vet bills in the 5 months that I have had her, thta;s not to say all small ones are sick but they definately require more watchful care. I keep hoping Cali will get bigger so I don't have to worry all the time about her. My pom is way above the standard at 13 lbs and much heartier. Hopefully her personality will win you over even if she is not exactly what you expected.

| How sad! I am sad for your yorkie that is. Gracious, I would imagine that she had already caused you to fall in love with her. Will you be keeping her or getting rid of her now?

| Thank's everyone It's is true that she already has stolen my heart, i heard about those sick problems that small ones give to us a big account of spending, also i know a surprise is always welcome, but unfortunately i have already a medium size dog which has been difficult for us because she does need a bigger place to live. I have been trying to convince my husband that the Yorkie is what we need actualy and has been much easier for our type of living and the house we have got. Actually i really don't want to give up my little baby even if it's not the size i wanted because as i said she already stole my heart, but those two together fight all the time and they have got different personalities. And as my husband does not find an answer to his dog it is difficult to myself keeping to separate them all the time as the little one wants to play with the bigger one. Don't worry evryone! I am still loving my Laila even she is not presenting the size i expected, I just want my husband sorting out the jeaulous problem of his dog which i am scared that she can hurt my baby. Regards to all.. |

I think many people have preset notions of what they WANT their yorkie to look like - but once we get them home - looks come 2nd to how we feel about them... As each of my girls grew up and changed - I celebrate the changes and am just thankful they're healthy and happy | |

| I was told Starsky would be around 6 lbs when I got him. His parents were 4 and 6 lbs and I even saw them. Starsky is now a little over 9 lbs. But I look at it this way, my parents are very short and I tower over both of them. So parents can't determine your size. It can go way back down the family lines. Dogs are the same. I love Starsky so much no matter what size he is. I also have a medium size dog and Starsky constantly attackes him, pulls his tail ect. but my beagle is very calm with him. I keep thinking Starsky will get what he deserves one day. I think my beagle is just proud to have a play mate and isn't alone all the time, so therefore puts up with the crap!! What kind of dog is your husband's dog?
