| Harness We just rescued a Yorkie, terrier mix we think. He is about two years old according to vet. We were using collar for walks but he pulls. Just switched to harness. My question is do we keep harness on at all times or just put on for walks? He is not too cooperative when putting on. |

| I just put my harness on for walks. The collar stays on as ID. I would always be sure to walk him on a harness, even for going outside just for the bathroom. Congrats on the new rescue!

| It's definitely a good idea using a harness. Like all small dogs, Yorkies are at risk for collapsing trachea, and a collar can aggravate this. I use a step in harness for my little girl. It goes nowhere near the trachea. The one I use is a Buddy Belt, and it's very easy to get it off and on. My little girl isn't bothered by it, but I think it's best not to leave it on all of the time. Welcome to Yorkietalk. Congratulations on your new baby.

| Welcome to YT. Collars use for tags only. Harness for leash walking, as lisaly advised collar can cause collapsing trachea in small breed dogs. I take the harness OFF after walks, I feel it's not comfortable to leave on 24/7. Besides when pup sees harness they know it's WALK time.

| Emma wears her collar and harness almost 100% of the time. Harness is for walking and collar are for ID.

| Mine two little ones also use Buddy Belts. If there's some resistance, start slow and reintroduce the harness as a 'fun activity'. * Have him sniff the harness and celebrate "gooood boy!!" and give him a treat. * Get him to put one foot into the harness and then quickly take it off again, repeat the party and treats. * Get him to put two feet into harness and quickly take off again, party and treats. * Have him wear it for a few minutes, party and treats. You get the point Basically, do this multiple times a day over a span of a week or so, in gradual steps, starting by just sniffing the harness and working up to him wearing it all day at home and then wearing it outside. With mine, they love the harness on because they know it's time to go out (they didn't always ). But each time I take it off after our walks, I give them a treat, because then they sit still until I'm ready to take them to the tub for cleaning.

| We use collars all the time and a lightweight harness for walks. Our Abby is very skittish and we learned to hold a treat in front of her while slipping the little puppy harness over her head. We now use step in type harnesses and they have learned to put their paws up for them. Cheerios are the best! |
