YT 2000 Club Donating Member | ![]() My good friend lost her penny who was a wheaten terrior. She is not ready yet to receive another animal into her heart and life. I want to ask folks ideas about breed type. Debs is 69yrs old and this might be considered in your decision. Relatively healthy as well but feels that she is slowing down. She nixed the havanese and I don.t think our yorkie breed is right for her. Anybody owned a toy poodle? The medium sized one. I think ideally would be a breed that is low maintenance and gets by with a couple of walks a day. She worries about the long waiting list for rescues and if she would even qualify. By the way lives in a house large fenced in backyard and an excellent vet record. We do not have any dog over population in Tor, but Montreal a different story.

| ![]() What about an adult lab? A lot of them are pretty chill and good dogs. I had a lad mix growing up that was an amazing rescue.

| ![]() Havanese was my first thought. Any reason why she nixed it? Bichon Frise, Tibetian Terrier? Lhaso apso or shihtzu? Our cockapoo is wonderful and most cockapoos I meet are. Fantastic little dogs. Lola is energetic and very playful when you want her to be but she's also super chill and cuddly whenever you want her to be. She's less high maintenance than Jackson in a lot of ways. I often get asked by people if she is a Wheaton puppy; looks very similar.

| ![]() Before yorkies captured my heart I two toy poodles (not at the same time), they do not shed, are extremely smart, learn FAST, easy to train, housebreak or pad, are not yappy dogs, they come in a variety of colors, they do have to go to groomer every 4 weeks. My only problem with the breed was finding a groomer that did not give my dogs razor burn when they groomed them. Had yorkies not stolen my heart I would a poodle owner.

Great suggestions! About the havanese debs just said she doesn't like them. She can be hard to talk with at times.

| ![]() I have run into so many yorkiepoos that are so intelligent and well behaved I would consider one. My sympathies to your friend, we lost our wheaten, Lucy, a few years ago- always to be remembered. |

| ![]() I think small poodle or poodle mix would be excellent, as they're intelligent dogs who want to please. I think even a young poodle (mix) would be quick to settle in order to please his/her person. Also, they're big enough to be seen, but small enough to lift and hold. I also believe she will find this type of dog readily, but she'll have to stay absolutely on top of her search. My Piper was a "find." |

| ![]() How about a Golden Retriever? Maybe a breeder has one on the smaller size. They are loving, smart, and bring great happiness! I just don't like the shedding.. LOL Spoiled by Yorkies. |

| ![]() Toy Poodles are fantastic little dogs but are kind of high energy as well. I really love the ShihTzu as it is very versatile, it's just as happy being a couch potato as it is hiking the highest mountain & not too yappy as poodles can be. I am always seeing on my home page ( Dogs that make good apartment dogs ) & ShihTzu is always on that list. I have a ShihTzu & he is a Foster FAIL ![]() |
