Default Breeder pissed at Me😔

It never ends for me, I swear.
So as I posted before, my baby Chloe died about a month ago. During that time, I was very depressed. I spent a lot time on this forum and just looking at Yorkies and researching the breed more throughly. I happen to go on Puppyfind.com and saw the most beautiful show Yorkies. I knew I couldn't afford them, but I wrote the breeder and told her that if she ever had any per quality ones, to please let me know, along with my whole story about my baby Chloe. Long story short, she emailed me back and called me, and she had a baby she couldn't show and was willing to sell for $2500. I talk to my boyfriend who was also extremely depressed and we decieded we put the deposit down on the dog to hold her until the 17th.
After I the mailed the deposit, I spent some hours researching the breeder and looking at reviews. I am not going to say the name of the breeder out of respect, but the reviews where 50/50. She had a dog fire once so some people were concerned about how she cared for the dogs. Also there was comments about her prices, but that was all I found negative. However as I slowly came out of my depressed state, I reviewed our finances and realized that $2500 was a lot for a pet quality Yorkie, especially since we spent 2k in vet bills trying to save Chloe. I also begin to read other reviews on here and people were saying that price range was too high for a pet quality Yorkie. After praying on it, I decided over the weekend not to get the dog. I would love to have it but the price is hefty, and we could buy a cheaper Yorkie and afford to rescue another dog, and still have half of that money in our pockets(which we plan to do).
Last night I sent the breeder an email telling her we changed our mind and that was sorry for the inconvience. I also told her we had located Chloe's breeder(which we did on Saturday) and wanted to go that path and not to cash my deposit check. I felt bad but I just couldn't justify the cost to myself. On my way to bed last night, she called but my boyfriend wouldn't let me answer because it was 11pm at night. I was so stressed after the email I spent all night awake and stressing if I was making the right decision. Ever since Chloe died, I have been depressed. I have a lot guilt surrounding her death because she was sick and we didn't know the risk nor did she show any signs. Everyday I think I am getting better, but then this happens and I am back at square one. Please pray for me. I hope I am making the right decision. I didn't sign a contract so my boyfriend said I shouldn't feel bad, but I do. I know she will cal me today and she will be pissed caused I backed out. I love to have the dog but it's the cost. I feel like my heart is going to cave in on me

I hope you put a stop payment on that check

You have to follow your heart and gut instincts on this, if you prefer to buy another baby from a breeder you know and trust and her pet quality pup is more reasonably priced, planning on rescuing another pup and will still have pocket change , I say go for it. Don't feel guilty about backing back. Good luck.

Yes I did, I definitely don't trust people nowadays when it comes to checks.
And thanks for your post. I hope I am making the right decision. Deep down I think I am.

So sorry for the loss of your sweet Chloe! What a heartache you and you bf must be going through! I really feel for you both. I also say go with your heart/instincts. Business is business and the breeder should understand. Good for you that you stopped payment. I'd say, for your own sake, don't receive any calls; as it may stress you out more. Sending positive thoughts your way. You will find the 'right' furbaby in time. Again, SO sorry for your loss.

I am glad you backed out, I will tell you for $2,500.00 you should be getting a high end show dog, from someone with a good reputation in the show ring. if you were not she sounds like one of those high priced web site breeders.

You are absolutely making the right decision and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. 50/50 reviews is a horrible rate. For that amount of $$, as Donna said, you should be getting a top end dog. Her reaction to your changing your mind will tell you what type of breeder (and person) she is. You keep your head up and you will find that perfect furbaby for you.

The breeder she's referring to has beautiful top show dogs. NOT a "web site breeder"...

A high end show dog runs more than 2,500(a lot more). At least around here! I got a "pet" quality pup from the breeder the OP is talking about for the same price and I couldn't be happier. My pup is smart, sweet, beautiful, healthy and it was 1000% the best call for us. This breeder chats with me every few months for updates on Olive, and she is a kind woman. I'm at my limit on furbutts so I'm not in the "market" buuuut I would return to this breeder in a heartbeat. <3

To op: you have to do what is right for you. I honestly wish you peace and that you find your furry soulmate. Good luck!

So I talk to her, and it didn't go as I expected. I am about to post a update to this thread. And your right, she's a sweetheart.

When you have a breeder that does absolutely all the nurturing, the initial training of the puppy, vaccinations, micro chipping, plus MOST IMPORTANTLY, guaranteeing you a HEALTHY puppy, a puppy that she stands solidly behind, holds that baby until after 14 weeks of age, because THAT is what is in the best interest of that baby, to ensure all vaccinations have been given and tolerated, and the breeder is reputable and delivers a quality, healthy baby that will survive and make a wonderful, well adjusted pet for you.....this does NOT come cheap. If you can not afford to pay for that breeder's care and concern and time and attention she has smothered on her puppies and mothers and fathers as well, do not deal with her.

I am always rather amused as well as annoyed at people that have nothing to do with breeding or showing quality puppies, throwing out what THEY think a solid, healthy, well bred Yorkie puppy "should be priced at". Do any of you that DO NOT BREED, have ANY idea even within a couple hundred dollars, what it costs a reputable breeder, that manages a well run breeding program, that stands behind every puppy she produces, what that costs her? Include in that "wild guess" the cost of her healthy breeding stock, which ensures she produces happy, healthy babies! It amazes me how people "justify prices" of anything sold by anyone else....especially when it involves something people have NO reasonable, accurate idea about any costs involved.....all pure speculation and guesses and most of the guesses and suppositions are not even based on solid knowledge of what it costs to manage a reputable breeding program with healthy dogs that throw healthy puppies!!!

If you do not breed dogs, and breed them correctly, following all the "rules" of an ethical breeding program, with age old proven lines developed by well known breeders down over many years of winning show dogs as foundation stock, producing consistantly HEALTHY pups, you have NO qualifications to even suggest what a specific breeder "should be, in YOUR opinion" charging for their babies!

If you find a breeder with babies you think are great, and you have done YOUR homework and know this is a reliable, reputable breeder that can be trusted, the first thing you do is ask what the puppies cost. If you can not afford to go there, dont go there! You would not go shopping for a Corvette if all you could afford was a VW Bug.

People charge for their services, regardless of what those services are. If you do not think, after doing a complete assessment of the person you are about to "hire" for any specific job, is worth the price they are asking for their product, do not deal with them. But I can promise you one thing....when you have bought a cheap puppy from a questionable "breeder", neighbor, newspaper ad, or pet store, and that cheap puppy gets ill and dies on you because you were dealing with non reputable people, you get what you pay for.

Breeders that produce quality, healthy babies, from quality, healthy stock, that stand behind their babies, select with utmost care who gets their babies....this cost money and I can promise you, such breeders do NOT make a living doing this....we do it simply because we want to provide loving, healthy yorkies to people that will treasure them and care for them PROPERLY and adequately....not on "the cheap"....we are thrilled to break even with our babies, possibly make a couple hundred dollars on a baby. And if you throw showing into the mix, most are doing this strictly for the love of the breed, because you are doing well to break even with time and expenses, just to produce the next generation of sound, quality, healthy yorkies.

Yorkies are high maintainance dogs....If you have done YOUR due diligence and found a reputable breeder that is selling her babies for a price SHE thinks her pups are worth, if you can not afford the price, move on down the road and keep looking! Don't fault the breeder for trying to COVER the expense SHE has put into the puppy, time and money and effort and knowledge that assures YOU have a healthy baby that is going to live a long happy life and NOT cost you your retirement funds in vet bills and misery. You have to decide just how important that is to you! If you think it is too much to assure you have a healthy dog and a breeder that will stand behind the quality of her pups and breeding program, do not buy her pup! Certainly, dont fault her for her prices! Cheap yorkies usually come with expensive health issues that you will pay for down the road. An honest, good, reputable breeder will charge more for her pups because it costs money to produce healthy dogs that are not riddled with genetic health issues or illnesses that could have been avoided if care would have been taken by the breeder!

As Mr.Good Wrench always said, "You can pay now or you can pay later, but you WILL pay!".

God works in mysterious ways.
This morning, right after this post, the breeder called me. She wanted to let me know that she got my email, and that she would send my check back. We started talking and I told her the full story, that right now we just couldn't afford the furbaby but how much we would love to have her. I told her with paying off Chloe's Vet bills, money was tight for us right now. She immediately said that she was glad she called because me and my boyfriend touched her heart, and that she definetley would work with us because she just wanted her furbaby to go to a good home. I was literally in tears. So this afternoon when my boyfriend gets off, we are going to call her to discuss the cost. Thank you for all the responses. And the previous poster was right, her dogs are beautiful.Hopefully I will have the privilege of owning one. I'm just glad it turned out better than I thought.

One more thing I want to say........if that breeder is worth the sweat on her brow, she will accept your decision to back out of the possible deal for that puppy....what reputable breeder wants to sell one of her precious babies to someone that has changed their mind? That is EXACTLY why I never accept a deposit until the babies are 11 weeks old......after they come and select the baby they want, they have to hold that baby with a deposit because I no longer show that baby for sale....if that person then decides they dont want that baby, it will cost them their deposit, because they have added to MY expense and possibly having to hold that baby until another buyer comes along! I have been fortunate enough to work from long lists of people wanting my babies, that this has never been an issue for my business.

First off I am not sure why you are attacking anyone on this post, espically me. I definetley did my homework on the breeder and also thought I could afford the dog, but I also did not realize how much vet bills I had to pay. I was never attacking her price. Read the post before you comment, I don't appreciate negative comments when I was asking for opinions. If I thought I couldn't afford it, I would had NEVER sent the deposit it. At the same time, I wanted to close out my other furbaby bills and make sure my vet, who has been taking care of my dog for years, was paid. Thank you for your rant, I am amused as well that you took it upon yourself to tell me what I was thinking or what I SHOULD be doing.

I tell, this site never fails me. A whole lot of 'know it all's, who don't know what they are talking about. Thanks to all the posters, I truly appreciate it. Even the last one because I got my laugh for the day.
I will keep you all posted. We shall see

Educating people that do not know what goes into the "production" of puppies from a qualified breeder was the entire purpose of the post....it was NOT aimed "at you". It is information that people that do not breed, have no idea about..... If you choose not to learn and utilize what I said, no problem....there are many, many that will not understand or agree with the information provided. It was NOT an attack on anyone, it was an educational opportunity...take it or leave it....often people that do not know how a particular business works or how a pricing platform is determined, offer pricing parameters that are unrealistic.. Learn from the post and utilize it, or not! Clearly there were no "negative" comments aimed at you....it is a post that explains what goes into breeding quality puppies and the pricing of puppies....it clearly was not "aimed" at YOU...it was to inform people that pre-determine what in their mind is "the proper amount to charge for a puppy". The "proper amount" to charge for a puppy is determined by the quality of the product, the reputation of the breeder for producing quality puppies, and the interaction you have with that breeder for the life of that puppy. Did you read my second post??? It was actually being written while you were hearing from the breeder, and she did exactly what I said in that last post, was the responsible, respectable thing for her to do....I did not know she had returned to you with a revised plan of action, I just posted what would be the right thing for a quality breeder to do....and darn if she didnt do just what I said!! Guess you "missed" THAT comment from me??? Imagine THAT!
