Care credit? I have spent a ton of money over the past year on vet expenses. Between affordable annual checkups for my 2 boys and then major surgery to repair my little ones broken leg and then my older boy was diagnosed with lymes last week. So I decided to apply for a line of care credit just to have as a backup for when the cash runs dry....lol...only to discover that my top 2 vet offices don't accept it! I'm wondering how many others have run into this and if they are picky with that then they prob don't accept insurance either

With the insurance I have, you pay upfront and get reimbursed. So you vet doesn't need to accept your insurance because you are paying. The insurance plan I have, I get reimbursed 80%. I also established an emergency fund as well as a credit card that is only used for emergencies. My last yorkie had serious medical issues which cost a lot of money. And because of this, I've established "multiple payment sources" for my current yorkie in case of medical issues.

Thank you! That's what I have started doing is stashing away an emergency fund. I just always thought that care credit was a good one to have for vet expenses. I have glanced at insurance plans but always was unsure if they were worth it. I also assumed they worked the same way as human health insurance...but it's good to know that you pay upfront and then are reimbursed.

There are quite a few threads on here talking about pet insurance. I know I am glad that I have it. You can do a search on here for insurance or just do a google search. The prevailing opinion is that it is definitely worth having if you select the right insurance plan.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Wow, that is really awful that they don't even accept it! I wonder why...? If I were you, I'd either do an emergency fund or get pet ins or both.

I have an investment fund for ZoE (for medical expenses and her future care should anything happen to me) but it's not easy to access the money in the wee hours of the night at the emergency vet. So, I keep a credit card just for ZoE. But, at our regular vet, I always write a check, so the card often goes along time between uses, which, fyi, can cause problems. So if u get a credit card specifically for dog emergencies, remember to use it to buy something about once every six months or so to keep it active, even if you immediately pay it off right away. Also tell your credit card company the purpose of the card and they will note your file. So if you go six months with no activity and charge a large sum at an ER Vet, they won't decline it thinking it's stolen.
