YT 500 Club Member | So Upset With Sammie When i came home the other day he did pee on the kitchen bench. This today he peed on the cough a lot!! I don't know why he is all of a sudden doing this. He is still in the potty training stage but to pee on the couch. Today the door in my house flew open from the wind and it was open all day so I am hoping maybe he was scared from that and did not want to get off the couch to go to his pee pad. I really hope he does not keep doing this |

YT 500 Club Member | He is 8 months old. Of course I am a nervous pet owner and I had a dog that had seizures and use to pee where ever she was and I am hoping he is not having seizures when I am not home and peeing where he is. |

| So he is only peeing where he shouldn't pee, while you are gone from home and he is alone? Does he do well while you are home with him? Or is he still having accidents while you are with him?

YT 500 Club Member | he has a problem with wanting to pee on rugs. So I took all the rugs up and then he started to go on he pee pee pad again. But if he gets up stairs to the bedroom area which has rugs he will pee on them too. So I am thinking it is a behavior thing. I just hope he stops because my husband is not going to want to keep him if he keeps peeing on the couch and the chairs. He is one tough cookie. My shih tzu was trained in one month!! |

| They are all so very, very different - our Harry was trained within a couple of weeks but he's a much bigger boy with therefore a much bigger bladder.... If I were you - I'd confine him to a much smaller area, so that he doesn't have the opportunity to pee wherever he likes. Maybe an ex-pen type arrangement? Sammie's still very much a baby, and needs to be treated accordingly - good luck!

| Are you praising him and treating when he does go potty where is he supposed to? ZoE will be 4 years old in a couple of weeks and she still expects a treat everytime she goes potty on her pads. I dont mind, as it keeps her good potty habits in our home. Also, does Sammie have one consistent potty area. I know some people have multiple potty areas, but that has never worked for me. I picked one spot and the potty area stays there. No matter where we are in the house ZoE knows to go to her spot if she needs to go, much like a young child knows to go to the bathroom. With my last yorkie, her potty area was in the laundry room on the main floor, and even though we had three finished floors, no matter where she was in the house she knew to go to the laundry room to potty. Consistency and praising like crazy has slways worked for me.

YT 500 Club Member | Yes his pad is in the pantry. Thats the only place I have pads. Sometimes he does go right to it but too much freedom he goes to other spots. He will not pee on the hardwood. Just the rugs. Bathroom, family room bedrooms. But I don't know why he is starting to go on the furniture. I really hope it stops. I do praise him when he goes outside. My friend has a 14 year old yorkie and he has always peed and pooped in the house. He never got trained. I don't know how she could stand it. I really don't mind the rugs I can clean those but the couch thats just gross. Last edited by mindy10; 11-21-2014 at 01:33 PM. |

| Ive never had a male dog, so I'm not sure, but is he peeing or marking. Those of you that have boys is there a difference, or is all just a varied amount of pee? I have hardwood throughout my house and marble in the bathroom and laundry closet, so i have lots of rugs, some large like in the dining area and living room, and small rugs by the side of the beds and in the bathroom (cos the marble is so darn cold in winter). The only one ZoE has ever tried to pee on it the very first rug just inside the bathroom door...its green, so maybe she thinks its grass? lol

| Nini thinks the rugs are pee pads. I have to pick them all up. We have tile floors and they are cold too. Hoping for rugs when she is a little older. |

YT 500 Club Member | It not so bad on the rugs I can pick them up and get rid of them or wash them but the couch thing is upsetting me. I just can't have a dog peeing on furniture. It was not marking because he emptied his whole bladder. It was a lot!! Of course I am a worry wart and I am hoping he didnt not have a seizure and peed |

YT 500 Club Member | He was just playing with my daughter and lifted his leg and peed on the bunny cage. OMG. He will be the death of me. My poor daughter heard me telling my husband I might get rid of him and now she is hysterically crying. |

YT Addict | My be he got to excited you were home . Did he jump on the couch to greet you?. He may have been asleep when you came in and needed to potty. When im out and its been a few hours i go right in and get the fur babies collars on and out they go. You might also use the bands. If boo fails to go potty when i take him out then he gets the band on until the next time. |

| Do you discipline him when you catch him in the act? I say a stern "no!" And then I carry my boy straight to the pad and tell him "pee". It's tough at first but helpful if they associate the word "pee" when they're on the pad bc eventually you can demand that they pee when you place them there. It's quite amazing actually. So after mine learnt the word, if he was caught marking somewhere, I carry him to the pad and repeat over and over for him to pee and eventually (sometimes 15 mins later in the beginning) he does it where he's supposed to and I praise him and give him a treat. until that happens I would take him to the pad more frequently. He will catch on quickly, it seems he just needs some reinforcement. Are you able to keep him in a small area when you aren't home? Or maybe in a playpen? This may help a lot too until he is fully house trained. Good luck! They are very smart and bad habits are easier to break at a young age. Just be diligent. |
