| Does my yorkie have a cotton coat? I'm pretty sure she does but I would like the opinion of the experts here. She's 10.5 months old now and still most black. She does have some silver coming in at her shoulder blades. I could only add one picture now but I'll add more later. https://www.dropbox.com/s/13caff55jz...45.11.jpg?dl=0 |

| Thanks. I love her to death. In trying to load more pics but I can't on my phone. Her coat is is mostly dull, straight and a little fluffy. I recently shaved her down because i didn't have time to brush her topknot everyday. |

| I believe she has a cotton coat because of her eye shine. I have 2 yorkies, one silky and one cotton coat. I have found green eye shine is silk and red/yellow usually cotton. She is pretty. |

| Sounds like cotton-- It's OK, every once in a while even breedings of the best Yorkies in the world will produce a cotton coat. It's acutally a very beautiful coat for those who can keep up with the considerable maintenance. I've found the Yorkies with this coat tend to have the most beautiful faces. Search the internet for photos of cute haircuts for this type of coat, then show them to reputable groomers in your area who think they can achieve the look you like. Better yet, invest your own time and a little money in scissors, combs and clippers and develop a look you particularly like! Most of all, enjoy your Yorkie!

| Here are some more pics. The last one was before the haircut which I really regret. I can't wait For it to get to that length again although I must admit the shorter cut is super easy and cute. So at this point is it safe to assume her coat will not change? She's already 10.5 months old. I must admit I'm a tiny bit disappointed as a silky coat was one thing I really wanted in a Yorkie but we love her so much it doesn't make a difference at this point. https://www.dropbox.com/s/wj44ao5zzq...05.39.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/sd2ph65p1y...05.20.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/39c89rjulv....08-2.jpg?dl=0 |

| your puppy is adorable. The way you describe it sounds like a cotton coat to me. my daisy has a cotton coat and it is really easy to manage. I keep it cut short and she never matts or tangles. there was an interesting thread on here a while back about the color of the eyeshine of the dog determining if it is a silky coat or cotton coat. I don't know how reliable it is but my Daisy has red eye shine like your pup has. Try searching "eyeshine" (not sure if it one word or two) and see if the thread comes up. My phone won't let me do searches.

Thanks for the tip. I looked into the eye shine and it is an amber color for sure. My baby is definitely a cotton coat. I read cowboy magic can give her some shine. I think I'm going to grow it back out but shave the body. I saw pictures here. They call it the joy cut. | |

| My girl, Kimchi, has eyes that shines red, lol I would joke that she has red pepper paste in her which is an ingredient for kimchi, the actual food. So far her coat looks cottony, so right now I keep it shorter. I have a cut that I want her to have when she's older and it has the body cut short anyways, so it works out

| Gizmo is a cotton head and we have a schnauzer cut on his body with a teddy bear head. His hair is so soft does not get matted. |

| I would call it a modified coat, with soft coat background. |

| Peanut's hair is getting silky on his head but his hair on his body and legs is still cottony. He is not quite 7 months old so maybe it will change? |

| I always thought my Piccolo had a silky coat because her eyes shine green. However, her back part can get curly after a bath and my friend says this is a sign of a cotten coat. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
