| Playing too rough with other pets I just wondered if anyone had experience with a very hyper puppy and an older fur baby. My very laid back Himalayan cat is almost 10 years old and my Lilly is 7 months old now. She isn't trying to be mean to the cat, but she jumps on her and chases her and if my cat just gives up and lies down and tries to take it Lilly jumps on her head and gnaws at her feet and legs. I know she's just playing but my cat is rather elderly. I hate that I have to keep them separated, though I know that may be the only way to handle it currently Anyone have any ideas? The other day I heard an awful noise while I was trying to just let them play, leaving plenty of places for my cat to hide and get away but she doesn't move that fast anymore and I went to look and Lilly had knocked the wind out of my cat and she was gasping so I had to separate them again. I thought about adding another small dog for Lilly to play with, but not sure if that would just make double the trouble for my poor cat. Any help or suggestions are appreciated! |

| Lily is just trying to play I think another small dog is exactly what you need

| I have a cat tree for my cats so they can get up and away when they want. I would try redirecting the pup's energy to a toy, and at the same time teach her to be gentle with the cat. Also start some basic training with the pup to get her mind involved in things other than kitty torture, lol.

| Just means he needs more outlets for his energy. More walks, more playtime, training to stimulate the mind, or get a second dog (which is what I did). |

| If the cat wants to get away from the puppy they can always go vertical! 10 is not elderly in my book. At least not for mine. They have been fit and active all their lives though. Mika is 15 and wants nothing to do with the dogs & play. She has always ruled with an Iron paw and she in forces her rules from day 1. She is fine if they want to lay by her but that is it! Tallulah at 13 just adores the dogs! Lucy humps her on a regular basis if Tallulah doesn't care who am I to judge. Tallulah is 15 pounds to Lucy's cubby 8 pounds. The 2 of them wrestle regularly, too. Both the cats do have dog free areas. Puppy gates keep the dogs from disturbing the cats when they are in the litter box. I have actual human play pens where Mika will sleep most of the time so that she can get her Beauty sleep without being disturbed.

| You're lucky, your cat can get away and hide. Our Hansel gets his face, beard, ears and tail chewed on relentlessly by Princess Sophie. His only relief is that she still can't jump up onto the furniture yet. I just keep telling him he's a good boy!!! He really puts up with a lot!!

| We had the some thing here, our himalayan cat is 17 and bella was at him constantly , bella just wanted to play and the cat (bites) wanted to be with bella but didnt like his face being eaten off. After trying alot of things I took out the water bottle it worked like a charm. I keep the water around and if bella forgets she gets a shot of water. |
