If the cat wants to get away from the puppy they can always go vertical!

10 is not elderly in my book. At least not for mine. They have been fit and active all their lives though.

Mika is 15 and wants nothing to do with the dogs & play. She has always ruled with an Iron paw and she in forces her rules from day 1. She is fine if they want to lay by her but that is it!

Tallulah at 13 just adores the dogs! Lucy humps her on a regular basis if Tallulah doesn't care who am I to judge. Tallulah is 15 pounds to Lucy's cubby 8 pounds. The 2 of them wrestle regularly, too.

Both the cats do have dog free areas. Puppy gates keep the dogs from disturbing the cats when they are in the litter box. I have actual human play pens where Mika will sleep most of the time so that she can get her Beauty sleep without being disturbed.
