| My first yorkie - Alfie Hi guys, new to the forum here. My fiancee and I took ownership of wee Alfie on Sunday. Having a fantastic time with him so far. http://i49.tinypic.com/1pxret.jpg He is due to get his first jab on Friday, so can't wait to finally take him out in a few weeks. We currently have him sleeping in a crate (which has his bed at the back and a pee pad at the front) while also having pee pads about the house. As he's only seven weeks, he's been pretty good about not going on his bed, but it's still a bit of a task to get him to go on a pad. If we catch him having an acident on the floor, we do try and lift him straight away and put him on a pad, but by that time the deed has been done! Does anyone have any advice as to how to tackle this? Also when is a good time to up how much food he gets? At the moment he gets a quarter of a tin a day (which is then divided up into four different meals) and he is currently scoffing it down. Reluctant to over feed him! Scott |

| congrats hes a lil beauty. because he is so young you might want to consider seperating his shots and do one at a time. some babies dont do well with getting all at once (when and if he is scheduled to do more than one vaccination at a time). i would check with your vet about the correct amount of food to feed just to be sure he is getting all the nutrients he needs.

| oh he is a tiny one so young..... He'll get it, just keep doing what you're doing. I use Nature's Miracle stain and odor remover for missed spots.

| Aw, he's adorable If he seems to still be hungry, I don't think it would hurt to give him a tiny bit more. He's a growing boy and you know how they can eat Welcome to YT!!

| He is still way too young to have any control over where he pees. It's going to be a while so be patient. He needs to have as much water and food as he can get right now. Don't try to ration it. He is still an infant puppy and you are going to have to treat him like that. You will have to have pee pads where ever he goes for now. When a puppy is 12 weeks old it starts to get the idea of where it should pee by your putting him in the right place but still has little control until it is about 16 weeks. Training a small breed dog can be trying and usually takes a little longer then a larger dog as they have smaller bladders. Right now he is pretty much a leaking faucet. |

| Welcome to YT your Alfie is adorable. We got Laddy at 9 weeks old and I found the only way to get him used to the pad was to soak a tiny spot of his pee up on the pad that way he had the smell there to go back to. Hope it works for you and good luck.

| Good afternoon Scott from a fellow UK-er! I see little Alfie is already a Motherwell supporter?!!? Harry was nearly an Alfie - and would have been, if that was Mr. Rednapp's first name.... He's absolutely gorgeous and I'm sure you'll have loads of fun....look forward to getting to know you! Sally + Harry x |

YT 500 Club Member | When he pees on the floor take one of the wee pads and soak it up and then leave the pad there and he will probably go there the next time as he will small his pee. Work great for Dolly. Good luck. |
