| ive got a biter!!! so ive had Bruno now for almost two weeks..He seems to be adjusting very well...My main concern is that he is a biter..From my research i know that its normal for a 12 week boy to be chewing and nipping constantly due to teething but im concerned that he is going to grow into an aggressive biter..He doesnt bite my mom or dad, seems like its just me....He goes after my ankles, has bitten my nose and it hurts!! I do all what trainers say, give chewing toys, say "NO" firmly but it seems like he doesnt get it or he thinks its a game...I give him time outs in crate but it seems like he doesnt care...Help anyone..any advise??? |

| Try this and see if it helps.... every time he puts his teeth on you and the minute he does, say "yikes!" He is young and at this age does not really understand he is hurting you but try this and see if it works. And remember to do it even if he is not hurting you yet but just putting his teeth on you.... |

| Ahi still does this from time to time. But she is playing and she bites down but not hard. If you know what I mean. Like she is holding my toe or my hand with her mouth.(There is no pressure just her mouth over me.) She used to bite harder but I just kept being consistent and told her a firm NO and replaced it with a chewy or toy. She caught on. I think she does it now to stop me from walking away from her.

Zachary's Mom Donating Member | My Biewer Yorkie Terrier, Zachary will be 5 months on the 7th of this month. ALL puppies are chewers and you must provide them with the RIGHT things to chew. Even grown dogs need something to chew, some more than others. My 5 year old terrier/x Gizmo, ate disposable peepee pads and had to be hospitalized (we now use washable pads which I HIGHLY recommend). I don't give them rawhide (I have 6 little guys). They get hooves and antlers (the split down the middle kind). If they start getting "pieces" off of any of them (like they did on one hoof last week), I throw them out. The split antlers are something I just started giving them. I found a couple of websites that sell them by the pound which is MUCH cheaper than you can get them at a pet store IF you can find the split ones which you might have trouble finding. I also got some off Ebay. Chewing is normal, you just have to redirect their attention to the right things. The yelling OUCH has helped many times (I am almost 65 with lots of puppies under my belt). They really do NOT realize they are hurting you. Good luck with your little one. Puppyhood is worth ALL the trouble. And, if you have a recliner chair in your house, PLEASE read my thread on recliners. I found out the hard way and almost a deadly way how very DANGEROUS they really are. Louise |

| Since he does not bite your mom or day I would suspect it is the way you are playing with him. Don't play tug or any games that will get him charged up. He may have been taken from his mom at a young age so he did not learn proper bite etiquette from his mom and litter mates. You are going to have to be very kind and patient with him. When he bites cry out in a high pitch and withdraw your hand. Stop all play. When he is calm concentrate on simple light petting or throwing the ball for him. Do not engage in any activity that gets him excited that involves your hands, feet or face. |

Senior Yorkie Talker | I'm pretty much in the same boat as you I have a 12 week old male Yorkie who loves to play with me! He bites but he is not trying to hurt me! If I feel his is getting to aggressive I'll stop him & say ow! He licks my hand after that! They are very smart dogs & I know Jax is such a sweetheart! You just have to let him know it hurts even if he isn't hurting you very badly....I know they love to make us happy & will never want to hurt us! You've got to train him & just make sure to let him know when he needs to ease up! Good luck & have fun! |
