My Biewer Yorkie Terrier, Zachary will be 5 months on the 7th of this month. ALL puppies are chewers and you must provide them with the RIGHT things to chew. Even grown dogs need something to chew, some more than others. My 5 year old terrier/x Gizmo, ate disposable peepee pads and had to be hospitalized (we now use washable pads which I HIGHLY recommend).
I don't give them rawhide (I have 6 little guys). They get hooves and antlers (the split down the middle kind). If they start getting "pieces" off of any of them (like they did on one hoof last week), I throw them out. The split antlers are something I just started giving them. I found a couple of websites that sell them by the pound which is MUCH cheaper than you can get them at a pet store IF you can find the split ones which you might have trouble finding. I also got some off Ebay.
Chewing is normal, you just have to redirect their attention to the right things. The yelling OUCH has helped many times (I am almost 65 with lots of puppies under my belt). They really do NOT realize they are hurting you.
Good luck with your little one. Puppyhood is worth ALL the trouble. And, if you have a recliner chair in your house, PLEASE read my thread on recliners. I found out the hard way and almost a deadly way how very DANGEROUS they really are.
Louise
