| A little help with my yorkie? My dog, Lucky (6 years old) has some problems. I was hoping some of you will help me out the best you can. I will address the issues in number format to make it better. 1.) My dog hates baths and is quite uncooperative during the bath, while I am drying him, and brushing him. How can I get him to be cooperative during these times? (I bathe him once a week and brush him daily). 2.) When we leave him in the house alone, he barks the entire time we are gone and poops in the house. What can we do about this? We don't like to put him in his kennel an entire day. 3.) He pees on people as they walk in and barks and acts like a complete maniac. What can we do to solve this? Thanks everyone! Have a great day. -Jordan |

| Have you tried giving treats at intervals during bathing and brushing? Are you free feeding? If he's pottying while you are gone, he shouldn't have free run... maybe use an xpen? Practice having him on a leash when people come in, so you can train him what behavior you expect him to have when anyone enters. I use treats to reinforce good behavior

| Six years old? You might want to talk to a professional who can teach you how to train a dog. |

| I agree with a trainer. It should make a huge difference. |

| Hi , my advice would be a professional dog trainer. if you have a petsmart in your area they offer group and individual classes. my oscar just started the beginner class. Good luck... Last edited by MY OSCAR; 03-04-2012 at 03:54 AM. |

| I am going to go to a proffessional trainer for Titus too. He is a pretty good boy with a couple of small behavior issues. I will need some direction how best to help him. I think it is a good idea with older dogs to get that insight. |

| I agree you may need an in home visit. We can give general, generic advice but, to really see what is going on and what the triggers are. My self I would treat this as an adult rescue and start training from that point of view. Start a traing plan of basics. Bad habits and behaviors have been going on for a long time. Dogs repeat behaviors that bring them rewards or satisfaction. You have to teach Yorkies how to cope with excitement (people coming in the door) going on walks etc. Many dogs bark when left alone out of boredom, or anxiety. It sounds like your Yorkie has too much freedom and stimulation when no one is home. When no one is home your dog should spend most of his time sleeping not barking. All dogs need exercise and interaction maybe you step that up when you are home. A tired dog is a happy dog. Please read some good training books. I would suggest Dog Dilemmas by Gary R. Sampson DMV with Dick Wolfsie This is very close to my method of : How to train the Just Right Yorkie for You. I also like 1000 Best dog training secrets by Robyn Achey and Bill Gorton and Dog Perfect by Sarah Hodgson Best wishes and hope this helps, Teresa
