Have you tried giving treats at intervals during bathing and brushing?
Are you free feeding? If he's pottying while you are gone, he shouldn't have free run... maybe use an xpen?
Practice having him on a leash when people come in, so you can train him what behavior you expect him to have when anyone enters. I use treats to reinforce good behavior
