| Veterinary ripping me off?? Please help Just have question on my veterinary that I pay for my pup Giggy he's 8 month old. I see veterinary that was recommended by my friend in Whiteplains, NY. Today was the third visit for my Giggy, but feel like every time I go there, theres something new that they tell us that Giggy needs to have. Before getting Giggy he already had 3 booster Vaccine (8/24,9/21,10/19) 3 DeWorming (8/24, 9/21, 10/19) 2 Bordetella (8/17, 9/21). Since then we brought Giggy three times and it total cost me $622. Heres all details. First Visit (October 26,2011) Health Examination: $68 Fecal/Giardia Analysis: $68 later on the week found Giggy needed medication for dewarming $20 2nd Visit: (December 28, 2011) Health Examination: $68 Annual DA2PP Vaccine: $38 Annual Lepto Vaccine: $33 Envirosafe Medical Waste Fee: $4 Bordetella Booster: $38 3rd visit was today: (March 2, 2012) Annual Rabies Vaccine: $32 Lyme Booster: $45 Envirosafe Medical Waste Fee: $4 Annual Bordetella Vaccine: $38 Brief Examination: $67 Revolution Dog 5-10(purple) for 6 month: $99 On Vaccination certificate that I got today note that I need Lyme Booster again on Mar 30, 2012 when I just got it done today. I asked them about neutering and they told me with all blood test etc it will cost me roughly around $700. I feel like I'm being ripped off, every time I visit them something new comes up. I already paid $622 to this place and yes I know some of these stuff is necessary but are these all necessary? and what I'm paying is reasonable? I recently moved to Fairfield County as well so I was thinking about changing my veterinary. If anyone could recommend Veterinary around Fairfield will be great. Thank you I really appreciate everyones help!!!! |

| $68 for a fecal? That sounds high, but you are in NY. Are you in the city? Looks like way too much Bordetella stuff going on. Don't allow anymore of that for a year. Once a year is all that is needed.

| Very expensive. Different parts of the country have varying fees, though. I had to laugh at the brief exam being only $1 less than a normal one. I think I would be looking around for another vet....or at least calling around to compare and see if everyone is that high in the area.

| Doggie camps here require bordetella vacs twice a year if you use their facility.

| I think this sounds very high to me. My vet won't do multiple vaccinations on my dogs at the same time. She also does not charge an office visit if I am just am getting a vaccination done. I don't do Bordetella because I don't kennel my dogs. I do DA2pp, rabies and Lyme disease. After the initial first shots..rabies is once every 3 years here, Lyme's and DA2PP is once a year. I do blood and stools once a year with an exam.

| Only my opinion I think I would: Find another vet. Too much going on with boster shots ect. and I think office visits are excessive / too expensive, for a healthy pup. My advice is to shop around. I live in Fl. maybe costs are much higher in NY.

| Maximo: I do not live in New York City. (Westchester County) ladyjane: I will be for sure calling around for price but also I would like reputable veterinary thats recommended by other yorkie owners. Princes mom: I've never taken Giggy to dog camp or mentioned to doctor taking him there. But with all the history Giggy has 4 bordetella vacs within 7 months. roseslevi: I've asked the doctors is it fine to have two vacs for his size. And they literally told me its fine. Which as of right now I do not believe what they say. When I got my certificate it said I had to take Giggy for another rabies shots next year. (Does size matter?) he's 8 month and weights 4.9lb. BellarousasMom: I guess I am being rippedoff!!!! Is $700 for neutering normal price i feel like its too expensive. I thought I could get it done less than $300. I really appreciate everyones input. |

| Some of those prices look a little high. Really depends on the area. More than the price, I'd be very concerned about what they are doing to your pup. Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but a series of three distempers were given and then another one three months mater? Lyme was given and they are waiting three months to boost it? THREE bordetella were given within a few months?? I'd say something sounds very wrong.

| To answer your questions, yes, I believe you are being taken advantage of. And your baby is being over vaccinated, imo! (this is the most concerning, more so than just money grabbing vets) Pease check out these links on vaccinations protocols and more info so you can be informed about your Yorkies needs for vaccinations. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...-overview.html I am so sorry and angry there are vets out there like this Sorry you had to deal with this, and happy that you are questioning it, for your babys sake Unfortunately, finding a good vet is the same as finding a good human doc, you have to keep at it until you find one you are comfortable with and trust... not always easy. I would suggest you make a post in the region forum section of YT and put out a call for good vet recommendations from Yorkie parents in your vicinity.

I would suggest you make a post in the regional forum section of YT and put out a call for good vet recommendations from Yorkie parents in your vicinity, then check them out, call them and ask if you can come in and meet the vets, assistants, etc. Then do some cost comparisons. As for the check ups, seems excessive for sure (exam costs each time), too many shots, bordella that often is ridiculous and you have to decide if you even need it. also, 700 seems very high for a neuter unless he has retained testicle(s), which makes it just as invasive as a spay, but still very high.
