| First puppy cut Ladybug got her first puppy cut this weekend! She's 7 1/2 months old with silky hair that grows very, very slowly. Over the past week I've been looking at all the YT yorkies with their puppy cuts. Although I said I would wait til Ladybug turned 1 to get her groomed, I really never intended on having a long haired dog. I think I was just waiting to see how full the hair on her long skinny legs would get before I cut it. Well anyway, I took her to Petsmart at 2:30 and they did not have her ready until 8:30 . I don't want to think about her being in a crate for all those hours just missing me . I told them to trim the hair on her ears since the hair was weighing down just the tips of her ears. I finally get my baby girl and I must admit I was very excited just to see her again after so many hours. They asked me if she looked ok and I did think so since it was such a different look on her. When I got home I noticed they did clean up her face, but didn't even trim the hair on her ears. They also shaved her a little higher on one side by her hind legs. I don't know how long it will be before she needs another cut since her hair grows slow, but I am definitely NOT taking her back to Petsmart. I wish I could show you pics but although all my pictures are from my phone, this time it says my photos are too large

| I had a similar thing happen to our Mica when I took her in just to get a slight trim when she was about six months old. I specifically said to tip her ears and just take a small amount off to even her up. I was shocked when I picked her up and they had layered her entire body, shaved her nose and under her eyes and didn't even tip her ears like I asked. It wasn't Petsmart but was a different groomer where we live. I started to groom the girls myself after that experience. At least I can clip them how I want them to look. It's by no means perfect but honestly, I think I do a better job than they did on Mica that first time. I'm so sorry you had this experience with your first grooming session at Petsmart too. I really wish groomers would listen to what people ask for they are just as bad as human hairdressers at not listening to what the customer wants. |

| Hearing things like this make me so thankful for my groomer, She has groomed my Peke every month for 6 years and before I even got Prissy I asked her if she could take her too. She is not taking any new clients but took Prissy, yay, she stays booked with her regulars and does exactly as she is told. I feel blessed to have her and fear the day when she retires.

| I took my Bella to Petsmart and it was a horrible experience! Especially for her first time of going to a groomer (if you can call them that) ~ I now found a really great groomer and she had a really good experience and looks adorable! |

| I hate to tell you all the threads I have read by people who have had their dog's hair cut badly or totally differently than they wanted. I have my own sad story. I guess we live and learn. I don't think the person you give your dog to at Pet Smart is the same person who actually grooms the dog. If it is then they are totally brainless. Maybe you could interview your next possible groomer and ask for references. It's really hard to know who to trust because so many people only groom their pets when they are matted and needs to be totally shaved. Look for someone who grooms show dogs. They are usually very experienced and have attended an accredited school. Look for their license to groom and license to run a grooming shop. Ask about their experience with small breeds like Yorkies. Ask if they mind if you stay and wait for your dog. It is shameful to keep a dog there for hours when it only takes an hour to an hour and a half to groom a dog. |

That's great advice. I will definitely know what to do the next time around. I would love to groom her myself since I know exactly what I want Ladybug to look like, but she hates getting brushed so I would imagine getting a hair cut would be a little worse. I feel more confident leaving it to the experts once I actually find one.
