| advice on teeth cleanings. Maci looks 100% healthy when I met her, and had some vet papers to prove so. But I am worries about her teeth. She is 2.5 years old and I don't think she's ever had a teeth cleaning, I could tell her teeth were quite black from the gum to half way down most her teeth. I was wondering if there is any toothpaste you reccomment, cleaning treats, etc. And what you think about taking her to the vet for dental work, I know sedation is a risky thing the smaller the dog, she weighs in at 8lbs and a li'l chubby lol. So I am gonna call my vet and get pricing etc. Is there a certain sedation medicine that is better than others? Point me in the direction of any past threads too! I'll be searching all day haha. |

| Teeth Cleaning The very 1st yorkie I had also had bad teeth. I adopted him at 2.5 yrs. I did not start having them cleaned until he was 6 years old. He had to have 3 teeth pulled! I felt so guilty because he had to have been in pain prior to that. From then on I had them cleaned every year until his passing. He did have to have additional teeth pulled over the years, but it is because he started out with bad ones to begin with. I have 2 yorkies now and have their teeth cleaned yearly! I don't want them to go through what my Cricket did. My 7 year old, Sully, has beautiful white teeth. My 1 year old, Bleu, just had to have 2 baby canine teeth removed so our vet cleaned his teeth at the same time. We also brush them once a week at home. Petco & PetSmart have doggie toothpaste. This is my own personal experiences, not advice, just experiences that may help you! |

| Yeah that's what I've read on here... people's yorkies loosing teeth at only 2-3 y/o because of not having them cleaned! And hers seem bad, at least to me. It's $250 to get them cleaned so I will probably have to do it in the spring since that's a little pricey for a teeth cleaning although once its done it'll be totally worth it so I don't have to get her teeth pulled or see them fall out! Or I may get it done in the states when I go to visit family this Dec!... sheesh everything is cheaper there and we have an old family vet I trust. |

| Jada had her first dental at 2.5 years old, right after we adopted her. We were lucky she didn't lose any teeth, but she had horrible tartar. I use C.E.T. toothpaste for brushing.

| I would let the vet look at them and if they think that she needs a dental I would get one and then after that start brushing her teeth. I like the C.E.T. toothpaste. Callie is 4 years old and I have brushed her teeth weekly sense she was a puppy and she is a crazy bone chewer and she has no tarter. My vet always is like wow good job with her teeth.

| It is not cheap initially to have the teeth professionally cleaned, but it is the best for them...and can keep them much healthier. Get it done when you can. $250 is a great price. A great price |

| If teeth are black they certainly need to be cleaned. My oldest has zero tartar on his teeth and just had a teeth cleaning because the vet said even if you clean the teeth well, you still need to get under the gum line to keep the gums healthy.

| Yeah I actually may try to take her in before winter if I can! Otherwise we go down to the states and our low cost vet will do it for $150. We have taken all my family pets there as a kid... hamster, four dogs, ferrets, etc etc so I think he actually gave me a little discount too. But yeah I don't want her loosing teeth so young! What is C.E.T.? Will it say that on the toothpaste and what stores? |
