I would let the vet look at them and if they think that she needs a dental I would get one and then after that start brushing her teeth. I like the C.E.T. toothpaste. Callie is 4 years old and I have brushed her teeth weekly sense she was a puppy and she is a crazy bone chewer and she has no tarter. My vet always is like wow good job with her teeth.
