| new dog causing stress to old dog. Hello everyone!!!! If you have been to coco's play date pictures coco met my other dog mickey for the first time. I even spent the night at my mom's house because I was too tired after dinner. during my stay at my mom's i realized that mickey does not like coco! At first he seemed a little scared but when I took both of them for a walk Mickey seemed to take care of coco. Teaching her how to walk on a leash, always following her to make sure shes not getting herself in trouble... Then I took her & mickey to my aunt's house and I noticed that Mickey was left out. Coco and my aunt's dog chelsea were running around playing and no one paid attention to Mickey. So Mickey came and we cuddled. THen in the evening when I brought both coco & mickey back home, mickey started barking & growling at coco. I separated them. Put Mickey ont he bed and coco on the floor and Mickey would still bark from the bed!!! I don't know if mickey feels its too over whelming because of his age. he's 15 years old and his health is slowly declining... I am spending Wednesday night- Sunday morning at my mom's house because I am getting Lasik eye surgery and I wanted to be at home where my mom can make me food and Coco will be taken care of and of course I can rest. My mom's really excited because she is in love with Coco but I am worried that Mickey will get stressed out. Do you have any advice for Mickey? Because of his age i definately do not want to give him a lot of stress but I can see myself visiting my mom and staying there for the weekend from time to time before I go back to Canada in August and I definately want mickey & coco to become friends.

| Be sure to give Mickey extra attention... sometimes this help to calm them down around the newcomer. And always do things for Mickey first, so he has no reason to be jealous..

| I think anytime you introduce a new dog to the house; the first dog can get stressed out. And Mickey is at an age where he is probably not all that interested in chasing around and playing with a puppy. I second the advice to treat Mickey like a King. Pay more attention to him than you do your new puppy (which is hard). Feed him first; pet him first; greet him first; leash him up first; everything first for Mickey. Mickey is worried that he has lost his status in your house. Show him that isn't true. Good Luck.

| thank you everyone! yeah this week was tough on mickey... he was afraid of coming down from the bed to get attacked by coco. i dont think he's afraid of the status loss isnce mickey and coco don't live together but i think maybe it stresses him out because of his age. i tried to keep them separated as much as possible so mickey doesn't get stressed out. i've also took both for walks & he enjoyed that lol. I hope with more visits he won't bark as much.

Poppy's Mamma ♥ Donating Member | I have another dog who is 13 years old and when we first brought Poppy home my older dog Jess acted the same way. She acted scared at first then would sit by herself almost as if she was huffed. Remember to greet your older dog first when you come home and make sure he is fed first too. Give the older dog lots of extra attention so that they dont feel left out and im sure (like my dogs) they will be friends very soon.
