| First - you need to call the airline and ask if there are any reservations left for pets in the cabin. If the limit has been reached, your pup cannot fly in the cabin with you. Do that NOW! Lisa

| You'll probably need a health certificate stating your puppy is healthy, and its about $50.00 for him/her to fly w/you on the plane. I flew my teddybear back from puerto rico, when he was a little puppy. Oh and most airlines have a 12 pound weight restriction in order to allow the pet in the cabin w/ you. |

| If you go to the website of the airline you are traveling on they have a section on traveling with your pet which could be very helpful. Some airlines will not allow any animals (Southwest) and many charge alot of $$$$. You do have to make reservations and they only allow so many animals in the cabin. The dog must sit in a bag under the seat in front of you and they will require a health certificate issued 10 days before you travel. I certainly hope you can get a reservation in the cabin as I would not allow any of my animals to go as baggage in the cargo hold. Cindy & The Gang |

| well thanks all. I am not sure which airline we will fly yet. Cheapest, so probably Southwest. I wont take him if he cant ride with me. My boyfriend wanted me to leave him anyways with the breeder, so as much as i dont want to leave him I might have to. But hopefully something comes up or something. Because I think think the breeder might put him outside if she takes him for $5 a day! Too cheap to not put him out with other dogs, dont you think? I dont know what to do! Keep hoping for change or something I guess. Thanks again for info all! MuffinsMom |

| I have flown numerous times over the years with my yorkies. I fly Northwest. I have found that the $$ are forever going up. I flew in Jan for $60. less than I flew in Sept. I can't recal exactly now but I think it was $180. plus your certificate that the vet charges around $40-50. I just have a little soft carrier that I put in front of me under the seat. They will ask you the dimentions of the carrier. I have had nothing but good times flying with my dog. They say you can't take them out but I always have put her on my lap, she just sleeps. I have never had anyone say anything except the last time I flew after the flight the stewerdess said that she saw I had her out and I wasn't supposed to do that and not do it the next time! I didn't listen of course, and nothing was said on my return flight. In fact on the way home I didn't even have her in the carrier when I boarded the plane, I had her in the great front pack that I got from Toyville.com. They didn't even know she was in there!! She loves to sleep in it and it has mesh sides she can see out. Most people love our little doggies. Mine have been under 4 lbs so some people don't even notice there is a little one. |

| We drive from Arizona to Minnesota which is a 26 hour straight drive. Teddy is a fabulous little travelor! I would definitely consider driving before I would leave my little guy with someone that may keep him outdoors that's for sure. The majority of the trip Teddy slept four paws to the sky all sprawled out. We brought his food, some treats, bottled water, wet wipes, his favorite blankie, and his crate for at our destination and we were good to go.

| frequent flyer My Edie is a frequent flyer. You must use a carrier that is airline approved. If you use a hard crate, it must fit under the seat, so you might need to ask for the dimensions. If you use a soft carrier (like the sherpa bag) you can make it fit under the seat. The purse-like bags that do not close up completely are not allowed. The dog must be able to stand up and turn around in the carrier. I have never had anyone check for this, but if your dog cannot do this, he/she will probably be very uncomfortable in the carrier because it is too small. Usually, only 1 dog is allowed in the cabin, so make your reservations early. If one person has 2 dogs, they will allow you to bring 2 dogs. Fees vary. I recently paid $80 for Edie--each way. She was billed as "excess baggage" on my Visa card. Although health certificates are required, I have never had any airline ask for one. So now I just go to the vet and get a printout of Edie's innnoculation history and when she is due for her shots. I hate paying for extra checkups just to get a certificate to fly. Remember, you are supposed to leave the dog carrier under the seat at all times, and the dog is never supposed to be out of the carrier. I DO break this rule now and then. Somehow, it seems crazy to me to have screaming babies in the cabin (who are on for FREE) while I must pay $80 for my quiet baby to be under the seat. I let Edie out, wrap her in my coat, and hold her close. No one ever sees her and she is happier. I don't drug Edie. I do take her outside if we are making a connection. It is somewhat of a hassle, because we have to go back through security. Alison |
