| Fostering? Ok so I am looking for a new furbaby to add to my family now that I am moving into a house of my own. I thought for sure I wanted a puppy but today a lady from a yorkie rescue called me and asked me if I would be intrested in fostering. Seems lots of yorkies need rescuing. Now I'm wonding if with a new house and everything if fostering for a bit might not be a bad idea. I am just worried, I worked for a humane society for a while and the only yorkie we ever had came in with 2 broken legs and a laundry list of behavior issues. I love yorkies dearly and I know they are work either way but I worry about the abandoned and possibly abused babies. Any one here have fostering expeirence that can share? |

| There are plenty of members that are fosters. It's a great experience and you will be so rewarded! Let me see if I can find more members to also give their experiences with fostering.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I've fostered many dogs, some only overnight til they go to their permanent foster home, others have stayed with me until their forever homes are ready. With the exception of saving abused/neglected children I can think of nothing that would be more rewarding for your soul/spirit than saving a dogs life. And, that is essentially what fostering is doing - saving a dogs life. Not every one can foster a dog, I understand that but for those that are willing, capable and ready, they will not regret their decision. Each time those soulful dog eyes look up at you, you realize what a monumental thing you have done for this dog........they are forever grateful and let you know it. Thank you for considering fostering......the dogs depend on generous people like you!

| I have fostered before, if you have any questions please feel free to PM me. I got a LOT of help here and from the group I volunteer for. I was a big ball of stress at first but I shortly found my groove. It gets hard and sad at times but the end results ALWAYS make the experience worth it.

| I have fostered dogs for a long time. Right now I have a Yorkshire Terrier, Reno, I am fostering. He is ready to go to his forever home and we may have a couple that is going to adopt him. It is rewarding. Reno was a puppy mill seizure. You can read Reno's story here: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...ing-today.html How the Yorkie will be depends on what environment they were taken from. Reno was from a puppy mill and had spent his whole life (8-10 years) in a cage. He just needed love and attention and he is doing fine - except for housebreaking. He plays with Beamer and he discovered a toy he likes to play with the other day. (I took a video of him, but can't post it as it isn't a Youtube) His coat was very dry through neglect, but now it is shiny. I have a Reno album on my profile. I have also fostered dachsies that were puppy mill seizures. One had a club foot. I ended up keeping her and some of the others. Two I kept, I had them for 10 years, and considering they were around 7 and 8 years old when I got them, that is a good age for a puppy mill rescue. If Reno is adopted this week I will be getting Clover, another rescue from the puppy mill. The rescue group want me to take Clover as soon as I can. But we feel we need to rehome Reno first, we are not as young as we were, so two rescues at once on top of our own two would be a little much. You will be doing a wonderful thing for the little Yorkie if you agree to foster it - and you will find lots of advice and help here if needed.

| Thanks for all the support and info! I have fostered baby kittens and baby bunnies before but never yorkies. I guess I was just worried after the one I saw at the humane society that they would all pretty much be like that. I don't mind some behavior problems but if it's gonna be a situation where the foster makes my current dog misrable I couldn't do that to poor Chibi. I might try it and see how it goes, I guess I was just nervous and needed some reasurring words |

| I've fostered before as well, and don't forget often times these dogs are owner surrenders. not bc of behavioral problem, but bc they simply can't afford to keep them. I feel that taking in neglected or abused dogs are really really grateful for you to take good care of them, something many of them have never experienced before in their lives. I almost was going to foster again, but the timing is not right for us right now. Hoepfully I will be able to again when we are in a better situation. It's really a rewarding experience.
