| Maddies surgery Mishap--when will this end Most of you know what happened to maddie about a month ago--well a couple hours ago i was rubbing maddies tummy looking at her nasty scar they left when they tried to spay her AGAIN--and then all the sudden my fingers were wet??? i looked down and ALOT of yellow pus (sorry) was comming out of the end of her scar--i rush her to the other vet, and they said it maybe a reaction to the internal stitches, and gave me a stronger antibiotic for the next 10 days-----i dont understand this, maddie was on meds after the surgery screw up and her tummy was kept clean and looked good except for a larger nasty scar, and she been acting just fine. also she never had a reaction to the first spay the rescue did right b4 i adopted her???? i glad i caught it---but i dont understand this infection---and now that im thinking about it-do you think theres a chance it might have spread to her internal organs??? again shes acting like nothings wrong--but im so worried about her. and why did this become infected???

If you didn't see any redness or swelling of the outer incision (and knowing how vigilant you are with her, I know you would have seen it) then it sounds like the second vet is on to the right cause- it could be a reaction to the internal dissolvable stitches. The longer it takes for them to dissolve, the more likely they are to cause an infection. It sounds like you and the second vet are on top of things.

| It is great that you were attentive to her scar and caught it. As long as she is on antibiotics they will fight any bacterial infection within her body whether it is localized or systemic. Keeping her on it until she has finished the prescribed amount is important, as you well know. I am sure that she will come out of this with flying colors....especially with you around! I am just sorry that both of you have gone through so much with these surgeries. |

| You are such a good mommy to Maddie....the fact that you are constantly watching her for any sign of things not being right. You are on top of everything. Maddie is so lucky to have you. Both of you take care. |

| update Thankyou everyone so much--you all help me get threw this so much-- i just got back from taking maddie back to the vet AGAIN--she had a allergic reaction to the new meds---had to get a shot to help with that and new meds--vet is worried she may react to those to--told me to wait till 9 am and give her 1, and at the fisrt sign of any trouble call, if there is any. i forgot to mention the incison opened alittle more-he thinks it due to all the infection that was inside, even though it looked pretty normal, but said it should heal back up. he said its hard cuz maddie reacts to so many things Please keep her in your thoughts---Thankyou everyone again
