| Keep ex-pen or go back to crate? Roxie came to us with a metal crate. She was overly protective of it, and would often try to bite anyone who came close to it. It was a real pain to get her in there at night for bed, because she would get really aggressive. Finally, we gave up and put the crate away. We bought her a soft-sided ex-pen, which she loves. However, I have to be honest, it takes up quite a lot of space in my living room, blocks the sliding glass doors, and doesn't really go with the decor. The only time Roxie is confined is at night when she goes to bed, and whenever we have to vacuum. When we go out she is free to roam around the first floor. I am wondering if we should go back to the regular crate. It takes up much less space, sort of blends in, and has a cute cover that matches the rest of the room. The ex-pen was wonderful when I had to leave Roxie with my parents for a week, but I don't know if it's necessary all the time. What do you think?

| What about a different crate... start on a level playing feild that way she isn't possessive of it from the start. Maybe try playing with her in it... or going and giving her treats while she's in it and giving her love and stuff in the crate... Now I wouldn't treat her for being aggressive obviously, but if you time the treats with the playing and when she's good, it might work... I bought Harley a really large steel wired crate, it's huge and it's his house. (I used the divider when potty training, but now he just has a huge house). If potty training is not an issue you could try getting a larger crate that is still smaller than the pen. It would also make it easier to play with her in it to try and deal with the agression. |

| I was going to suggest a different crate also. She might associate bad memories with the old crate. I have some that hate to be put to bed, but they never try to bite me and never growl at the crate. her tryhing to bite you indicates to me that there are other issues also. She does not respect you as pack leader or she would not do that. So I'm suggesting you work on that issue also. |

| Since the original crate has a cute cover and all, I would put it away out of sight for a week or so and then bring it back, in a different location and try it again. It's worth a shot anyway. |

| I put the ex-pen away, and I tried the portable house that I had gotten at Bed, Bath, and Beyond for like $10. I put the bedding from her crate and one of her blankets in there. She seems to be ok with it so far, and it takes up a lot less space in the room. http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/prod...12474&RN=2107&
