| Ankle Bitting Dog: What's Going On Usually he's a friendly loving kind of dog that licks you on the face. For some reason today, he bit one of my repair guys on the ankle, then ran and yelped. He's also got the Mailman before when he got out by accident, and a little boy. Seems like he doesn't like men, maybe that is it. I need some advise. |

| I'm interested to see what answers you get. My Charlie, 5 months doesn't seem to like men. She's okay with my own two boys, loves them. My dad, who lives with us, she doesn't care for. If he comes into my room, he barks, and barks, and barks, and then runs under the bed. Mind you, my dad loves animals, and kids and animals nearly always take to him. He loves me and is my shadow. Same with my 12 year old daughter. He loves my 18 year old daughter, though not quite as much. Any of the 18-year old's male friends, though, he barks at, though he hasn't bitten any. He did bite my ex-husband, though, and it was not a little nip either. We got him at 12 weeks, and to my knowledge he has no reason to dislike men. Do some dogs just not like a particular gender? Other than that, Charlie is a little love. Best little puppy you could ask for. |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | My mom's yorkie reluctantly tolerates my dad, but is afraid of other men (including my dh). Luckily he's never nipped or bitten. Maybe it's a size issue or the timbre of the voice that scares them. |

| I have heard people talking how their dog(s) don't like males. I have no idea if that is the case. He's tried to attack the electric reader guy, tho licked him later. He has attacked the mailman more than once when he accidently got out. He circled around my neighbor's home and I went the other direction and the mailman was in the middle. He did lick him afterwards. My neighbor on the next block got a warning on her dogs, which are Maxwell's buddys. I am told I am next by my repair guys from what the mailman told them. I was getting ready to leave with him and accidently left the gate cracked and the little boy down the road was running across the yard and he whipped out and got him. He's gotten all of the repairs guys that come over here too. What am I to do~? I don't want to be in any trouble with anyone. He's a good dog otherwise and will charm you his eyes or with a lick on your face. |

| I'm interested in hearing response as well. We've had Toby since early December and he was in a foster home for a year with other dogs and people around all the time. His foster mom used to have parties and he was fine with all people. Once he was comfortable in his "forever home" with us, he has been nipping at the back of people's legs and he is very, very protective of his territory (we have a female shichon that's 3 1/2 and she was here long before Toby. He continues to try and be the alpha dog but we do our best not to let him and Speedy has put him in his place a couple times. He will have NO OTHER DOGS in our yard and when we go camping we have friends that have two shih tzu's they bring to our camper because we have a fenced yard. I have to keep Toby on a leash and my dog repeller handy. I wonder why he's so protective as he was used to being around several other dogs at his foster mom's. NO WAY will he keep a muzzle on. I thought maybe if he'd wear that a time or two when the other dogs were around he'd realize they won't hurt him. I have to really watch him when other people are in our home because if he follows them or jumps up, he's trying to nip at them.

| My Cassie is the same way.She does not like men, she was fine up until my house was broken into and she had 2 week old puppies at the time. Now when any male comes in she wants to bite them but if they sit down she has nothing but loves and kisses for them until they stand up to move anywhere. I feel bad for my son as she goes after him all the time but when he sits down shes all over him with love. So I think it is the size and manner of movement of male figures that triggers her.

| I am, too, excited to see responses on this. My Isla also hates guys. And people in hats. I just thought it was becuase my husband would come home in a hat and Isla would start to bark and he would feed off it and 'stalk' her. Mature, I know. He thinks it's funny and she's terrified/aggressive. Nice. But if I'm gone Isla will sit in his lap and other's laps who are around. And she'll sleep next to him. I think she's just settling, though.

| The only way I can calm him down is say: oh he's your friend or he has doggies, big doggies. Then he's calm and wags his tail and licks. He not fond of hats either. When it was storming bad outside recently, all I had in the car was a bag, so I put it over my head. He had a big ole fit and carried on like he was going to attack me. |
