no sleep i am the proud new mother of a 6 week old yorkipoo, and i love him so much. the only problem is that i haven't gotten any sleep since i got him. he is so clingy to me. i bought him a huge crate big enough to put a bed and a puppy pad so that he could just stay there all night, but as soon as he wakes up he is crying and crying. if i put him in bed with me all he wants to do is play. i don't know what to do, and i'm wondering how long this is going to keep up. help!

The first couple of days I had my newest puppy, he cried and cried at bedtime in his crate, but he soon got used to it and now he sleeps there on his own and it is his "safe place". I suggest putting his crate in another part of the house and making him learn to sleep without you and then moving it back. Good luck!

| Yes! The first couple of weeks are hard on everyone while you all get adjusted to each other. We have a new one as well, she came home on Sunday. Now she is sleeping in her crate at night with minimal crying. It just takes patience, but I know it's heartbreaking to hear them cry. I have the crate on the floor by my side of the bed. She can see me through the top. I don't let her out when she is crying, but wait until she is quiet for a second, then take her out. I have one of my shirts in the crate as well, so she has my scent with her. Take heart - it will get better

Well, I was told to put Tinker in her crate, but have it in the same room. Dogs are instintively pack creatures. They feel more comfortable when they are not alone. He cries in the middle of the night because he has to pee. He is not used to peeing on a pad in a crate. Tinker did the same thing!! I got a plastic tub and put the pad in it, and set it next to my bed. Whenever she woke up and cried I put her in there so she could pee. It helped a lot with potty training her if I did that. Usually she would just go back to sleep. I put the crate in my bed with me and when she would cry I just stuck my fingers through the wholes in the door, she would smell me, and go right back to sleep. I also put a blanket over the kennel, because 1) she would get very cold with the fan on and 2) it helped keep any light out so she would not be afraid and think I am leaving her or anything. So if he starts crying I would take him to go potty, and then stick him back in there. He is just used to being with his mom and siblings so he is probably just scared right now. He will get used to it all, but I would try and start a routine everynight so he knows what is happening and is not afraid of anything. I promise it will get better just be patient. Try and take naps when he is taking naps that was the only way I got a good sleep when Tinker was little.

i'm not sure that he cries because he has to pee because he uses the puppy pad in is crate. i think he's crying because he wants to be in the bed with me. but i'm just going to have to tough it out. thanks a bunch, though.

Rut ro I must really be bad then because I allow Sydnee to sleep with me, hey the 80 pounder Chow/shepard has one side of the bed, I just thought it would be wrong to keep her locked up when no one else was. She has been getting better about sleeping longer in between feedings at night. It seems like she has been part of us forever, isn't that strange in such a short time to feel you can't imagine a time without her? Viki

I would cry too if I thought it would get me out of the crate and into a nice warm, snuggly bed with my new mom!!!!! Be patient and firm.....it took Lil Bit about 3 L-O-N-G nights to finally sleep most of the time. I put a heating pad under the dog bedding set on low and a sound machine...... She "yelled" most of the first night....but the crying got to be less and less.... Even now, when I get up in the morning...she will yell again....but I wait until she gets quiet before I go in and get her... She is the cutest thing!!!!
