| Starting a Doggie Grooming Business I am considering opening a doggy salon and I am going to start it in my house untill I build enough clientell to move it to a store front. Does anyone have some suggestions? I'm thinking it is going to be for over the top posh dogs, sell dresses, glittery things and treats made by my mother who is a professional cake designer. lol. What do you like best about your groomer? or what would you like to see groomers offer? |

| I wish you luck What a cute idea. Hmm... as for groomers.. I always expect for them to listen closely to what I say and what I want. I personally usually bring in a picture. Good prices! The place I was taking Jackson... even though I liked her and thought she did a good job, I just can't picture myself paying $50 + a tip every 6-8 weeks for his hair, especially when it stays short and just needs a trim. She would always charge $50 and I thought that was a little much. I think between $25-$40 is better. I know it all depends on the cut you want, etc, but for the most part, I think that's a good price and something I could do. Maybe offer special discounts to repeat customers? Or a package deal like buy 5 groomings up front and save $$?

| If you go to posh and over the top expensive you might not make as much as if the prices were more for the average shopper. I personally don't usually spend more than about $20.00 for a dress or other clothes and I can afford to spend more, but lower prices can mean more business. Some of the clothes out there are rediculouse, 40.00 + for dog clothes???? maybe in your area there is more money even in this economy. Good Luck and be sure to post what your selling , you never know, just might spend more money for something I just can't live without.... Good Luck......

| I would like a groomer to have a catalog of different cuts they have done, that way the owner can bring in a picture or choose from your pictures.... I like the deal about 5 visits for a cheaper price. I would love to have groomer that sells cute dresses, and bows, and carriers and whatnot. It would be fun to shop while the little one gets a haircut. Maybe have one side a grooming area and then a 1 way glass window where they could see their pup while they shop on the other side. Good luck, this sounds like fun!

| Being a retired Cosmetologist it always amazes me how much it costs to have our babies groomed. $50 and $60 dollars Be honest ladies did you ever pay that much to have your own hair trimmed. The most I ever charged for a shampoo haircut and blowdry was $30. Tell me we don't spoil our furkids.Of course I dont remember ever being bitten by a client either.

| I like the idea of mobile grooming but they charge too much for it here. But if I have to take mine somewhere I do not want to drop them off in the morning and not get them back til sometime late afternoon. The best groomer in our town does this. All need to be dropped off no later than 9 am, but you don't get them back til like 4 pm! Might be fine for someone who is at work all day but I want my baby back! So, I take mine to another groomer who lets me book the first appointment of the day and then I get him back in no more than two hours. I wish the groomers here had cute boutique clothes and accessories. I really have no where to buy that sort of thing except online. I would also like them to offer the premium grooming supplies, like Espree shampoos and conditioners -- that sort of thing. I second the idea of having a nice catalog of cuts to choose from. Pictures that the groomer themself has cut and maybe some from online until clientele has built up enough to have plenty of your own pictures to show as examples. It would be nice to offer the really nice bows and put the topknots in there at the shop. The groomers around might offer those really cheap bows or scissor cut bandanas and that is it. I am going to take Ben's bow in with him next time. I would also offer a choice of smells and let the owner pick BEFORE you just arbitrarily douse the poor dog with it. They use some overpowering flowery old-lady powder smell on Ben and I usually cannot wait to spray him with one of my grooming sprays to kill the smell. I keep forgetting to tell them not to do that. A checklist for people leaving their dogs would be handy. Things they want done could be checked off and that way nothing is forgotten. Some could be included in the groom at no extra charge (like remove hair from ears, trim and file nails, and tip ears) and some things (like express anal glands and brush teeth) you could charge extra for. I really sound picky now don't I? LOL!

| I did a bit of travelling with Tinkerbelle. The UK had (at the time) some quite cheap mobile options and I saw an advert for a full fitted out grooming wagon - it was cool..... Anyway, never had shopping and often not permitted to stay. But always leave for the appointment and collect when done or the collection service was the time they specified. Nice touch was in Amsterdam, when trainee groomer did the work (closely supervised) and we got a free bow She wouldn't wear it, so it was attached to her collar! haha! I;m not much of a shopper for clothes and glitz, but I love gadgets, unusual treats and such. I do understand that there are lots of people that do, though. Hope it goes well |

| What I like most about me groomer and it took me along time to find her is that she listens. I brought a picture in with me and she keeps it on her computer so she can refer back to it. If you refer another client to her she gives you 5.00 off your next visit. I wish you luck in the grooming business I know we don't have a lot in our area.

| I think the price's people are putting are good. I personally do not like dropping my baby off and not seeing him again for 4 hours. The last time (and I mean LAST time) I went to Petsmart we dropped our baby off and came back 3 hours later and he was still in the back, they hadn't done anything with him, then one girl seen me and went in the back for about 20 minutes and came out with him and cut his hair and we left, i'll never go back, it makes me wonder what they are really doing with these dogs sometimes. and then the lady was rude, becuase he had a couple mats on his head she called us and said that it needed to be shaved, I said no it won't i'll just come get him and she said oh no maybe it's not as bad as I thought I'll get them out. I wish I would have just gone and gotten him then but I tried to brave it out. So a big thing is listen to what people want and offer to let them stay if they want, I do NOT like having to leave the store. It scares me after all the horror stories I have heard.
