| It sounds like the big dog is too rough and your yorkie could have been hurt badly. Your going to have to keep them separated

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Welcome! Love the name Gatsby! Sorry you are having to go through this problem with your roommate! All I can suggest is the same, keep the separated! I would also discuss the situation with your roommate! They need to take some responsibility also! Good luck!

| Hi there. and Welcome to YT. omg, I would have been absolutely terrified i am very glad your baby was not hurt. Your roomate is not going to do anything about her big dog. IMO, If it this were me, I would be looking for a new place to live. If you are the main person on the rental agreement, then you have more options here. If you share the rent agreement and are locked in a lease, then PLease Keep you baby separated at all times. the chances are too great for the big dog to severely injure your yorkie. I think you were very lucky this time, and the dog was "playing" However, yorkie's are fragile, and it does not take much for the to get hurt, or killed by anther dog.

| I agree, I would try to keep them separated. The big dog may not be trying to hurt your yorkie but accidents happen and always before they can be stoped.

| That is a very dangerous situation. One snap of your Yorkie's neck whether it's in play or serious can kill him. Those two cannot be together - ever. I wouldn't depend on trying to keep them apart because one slip up could mean death for your Yorkie. It's unrealistic to think that no one will ever forget and let them be together. Sadly, for the safety of your Yorkie, you need to either find him a new home or find yourself a new roommate unless your roommate is willing to give her dog up. BTW, what breed is your roommate's dog? |

| I would really move. It's really going to be hard to always have them separated. |

| I would surely be looking for a new place to live or a new roommate. If you are both on the lease, I would look for someone to sublet your half of the lease. This is not a good situation for your yorkie, because even if you try to keep them separated one accidental meetup could be deadly for your pup.

| I love the name Gatsby!!! I am new to yorkies too, but your yorkie is the same age as mine and I also have a 100 pound yellow lab. While I would never let them play unattended, they get along great! I wonder if either dog in your situation are neutered? Would that help? I am just saying, although it was not very thoughful of your roommate to bring home a big dog without discussing it and that may be reason enough for you to want to move...it is possible for both dogs to live peacefully together with time and effort. |

I think all of the previous advice is spot on, unfortunately for the safety of your yorkie you can not have those 2 dogs together or you risk a serious or fatal injury to your yorkie baby. If this is just a room mate situation where there isn't a relationship involved then it's a no brainer quite honestly, either you find somewhere else for your yorkie and you to live, or your room mate finds another place, in the mean time keeping the dogs seperated. If there is some sort of relationship between you and your room mate then I guess it would be a little more difficult to decide what to do. If so though there has to be something done if the living situation is going to stay the same then one of the dogs should be rehomed for the safety of the other.

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | I would move or rehome my yorkie for its safety. I had a yorkie killed by a big dog and it only took a second right in front of me. You can't stop it. I will never allow mine to be around a bigger dog ever.

| I know this is a difficult position but remember, your roommate put you and your puppy in this position. As the above poster said, if there is no rlationship with the roommate I would try to get her/him to either move the dog out or go with it. Failing all else, get a pen ASAP. It is unfair to pen your dog but since things happen right in front of you, you can't monitor the other dogs actions even if you are in the room. Your first responsibility is to your puppy and keeping him as safe as possible. Penning him seems the best option at the moment. I would seriously consider a move for someone. Good luck. |
