I'm shocked! Absolutely shocked to read your second post. This may not be your puppy, but she is still a puppy. Your room-mate should be ashamed of his or her self! All dogs no matter what size, breed, or age need human interaction if they are expected to live with humans.
If she is in a pen outside all day long by herself at such a young age, with no socialization with other pets, kids, adults, etc, how in the world could she ever be expected to know what the rules are? She's teaching and entertaining herself. She is never going to learn what is appropriate dog to human or dog to dog interaction. Your room-mate should be spending tons of time with this puppy! Which is what she still is at 6 months of age. She may look big, but she's not fully grown in no way shape or form. And she has to active guarding breeding in her that require exercise, training and guidance.
I wish I lived closer to you as I would take her in a heartbeat!! It is so sad to me to know that she is so unloved! I highly recommend that you do keep your Yorkie away from her for his safety, but Please, please, please try and look at this from the large dog's point of view. She needs guidance to blossom into a great dog.
Tell your room-mate I said shame on him / her!!!! and that they need to educate them self on how to be a better dog owner!!! I recommend books by Victoria Stilwell and Cesar Millan for a start. Or watch their shows on Animal Planet and National Geographic.
