| Puppy matting - advice on products? Kaia's about 5 months old and she has a cottony soft coat. Her hair isn't very long and seems to be matting underneath. I've been using a soft bristle brush on her daily and trying to work the mats out with my fingers but there are SO many. I don't want to take her to a groomer just yet and give her a bad experience because she is so matted up! I can't even imagine how uncomfortable it must be, as she seems to be scratching at her mats often. Does anyone have any links to some great products that will help? Thanks so much in advance! |

| PET silk coat oil.. its the best, My puppy has a cottony coat and it was so hard to brush and keep nice.. this is a miracle.. honestly I would never be with out it... you can spray it on when they are dry too.. its an amaznig difference.. I love it!!! If you look in my album you will see her coat is very thick and fluffy , this works awesome Pet Silk Coat Oil (PK120)

| Also, use a dematter comb. It is important to work out matts when they are still small. It 's easier to get them out when they are little , then bigger. And it is less uncomfortable to the dog. Use one of the products out on the market along with a dematter comb, such as a decondioner spray. Be certain that the dematter comb is small , and perfect size for your little yorkie.

| Thanks so much for all of the tips. Any particular de-matting comb that works the best? I've tried to use one of these on a Persian cat and was not very successful. |

| my groomer told me to go to a hair supply place, and buy a metal comb> sure enough they had one! it was not really a dematter, but it had different ridges on the comb. AND works . I got it for a whole dollar. Those other dematter combs they sell look rather painful I bought one anyway, but use the dollar comb on Suzi , it is so much easier.

| My poor baby was so matted the groomer wanted to shave her. I just picked one section a night and worked on it for 13-20 minutes. I used a conditioning spray...with a matting comb, a pin brush (the best), and a long toothed comb from bamboo products. If I focused on a small section I could wiggle out the mats and get it done. It was hard on my little baby, but, so worth it. We had lots of treats and love in the process. Now, if I brush her everyday wtih the pin brush--she's good to go!! No more mats. |

| Hi, my Lexie had those tangles close to the skin, I wet the hair on her chest, then took some conditioner from CC called day to day, worked out the tangles with a comb and we got through it. I have been using that conditioner for a couple of weeks, I notice that if she does have a tangle they are much less and come out a lot eaiser. Hope this helps.

Yorkie Yakker | Bella arrived to us with badly matted hair. I just used a wide tooth comb with some johnsons baby powder (recommended by someone) and kept going. Its been 3 days and most of the matts are out so now i am going along with the normal grooming brush. Just give her something to keep her occupied while you do it, (eg a chew treat she loves that she only gets during grooming) then she will look forward to grooming. You could even take it to the groomers!
